Help me to choose correct macbook

External drives get fried? Where the hell do you got this trashy external drives? Using since 2 years on 3 different devices extern ssd drives withoutANY problem and im doing video editing in 4k/vr
Just get a good one from crucial (mx500 or nvme p5), buy a case and put the ssd inside.
From amazon, Ser. and not just the trash, but high quality ones. But then, i don’t use them to watch porn. I do serious dev work on the machines.

I’ve been using an NVME external drive for 3 years with my MacBook and Mac mini. It’s working ok for me. I don’t put apps on it though. Probably shouldn’t do that and instead just keep your videos, pictures and other non app related things there if that’s what you’re going to do.
Yepp, for lightweight usage it should work fine. One of my samsung 500gb ssd works just fine because I use it just for backup. The problem starts happening when you move apps like xcode or docker to the ssd. They hit the ssd pretty hard.

With 512 gb internal memory, it won’t be long till op runs out of memory, specially since he will be using big softwares (i am assuming, as he says video editing).

If you’re running apps like that on any drive you might need a cooling solution. Maybe the external ssd literally fried!

^^ So tell me, which high quality external drives did you buy that all burned up on you?

You wanna fight and take me down? Already mentioned I use samsung. Read a bit perhaps, and stop being a dick.

Ah true, you mentioned something about samsung. Actually samsung is not high-end just consumer class level.
It is what it is. I have never had a defective external SSD, except for the one from Sandisc, but that was clear from the beginning...

Well, my work does not need high end ssd. Heck, I don’t even need nvme. ;)

My work needs lots of reads and writes but still be cool. Hardware matters, but at the same time, how you use the hardware matters.. i.e. “workflow”. :)

I will give you an example since you are a mac user. I can’t sync my work to icloud. It will look funny if I do, because my containers will stop working due to the read and write. vs code will be like, sorry bro a monster ate my lunch.
