Help-I want to built ecommerce site

Hello BHW,Need help i want to built eCommerce site so can anyone tell me from where should i start and secondly i m confused in WordPress eCommerce site and there is one more method that we can make eCommerce in own website.in WordPress there are thousands of templates and plugin related to eCommerce site and i dont have to do much work but in own website i have to make full coding.am i rite
i am new in this work so pls tell me what should i do......
