Help, Google is Ranking the wrong Post

Hello guys, I would like to ask for help to all SEO gurus here at BHW.

This is actually the first time that I encountered this issue so I don't know what to do.

I have an old post, let's say for example, the title of the post is "Top 10 Best Calculators 2018". This post is ranking well on this keyword.

Then,

I was able to find another keyword, let's say for example, "Casio Two Way Power Super Calculator". It is a long tail post that is so easy to rank.

Here is what I did. First, I created or wrote a content about "Casio Two Way Power Super Calculator" targeting specifically this keyword. And then I posted it.

Second, I went to the older post "Top 10 Best Calculators 2018" and I added some content with the keyword "Casio Two Way Power Super Calculator" then I linked it to the new post.

I waited for a few days for the Google Spider to crawl and sort everything out. So as a result which is currently my big problem that I cannot figure out, the old post entitled "Top 10 Best Calculators 2018" is the one ranking for the longtail keyword "Casio Two Way Power Super Calculator".

My understanding here is that, my old post is not ranking top or on the first page is because, it is not optimized for the keyword "Casio Two Way Power Super Calculator". And my big question is that, my new post that is well optimized for this long tail keyword is no where to be found. Although, it is already indexed by Google.

I performed the site index checker code on Google which is "Site:Link" and it is there. I even copy a content then post it directly on the search and it gives result of that post, which all mean that the new post is indexed.

What do think guys...sorry SEO masters? Can you help me sort this one out?

Either you wait a little longer for Big G to work their metrics in determining the eligibility of the ranking of the posts, or you can use drastic measure such as pointing the page's canonical to the post that you want to rank accordingly. There would be instances where both articles are similar and they would cannibalize one another over the same keyword ranking on the search engine, and if you find the keyword cannibalization too much until it is detrimental, you can simply pick one of the article to be the primary article, and on the secondary article, add a canonical link to the primary article, and the search engine would then use the primary article as indicated. The canonical link is like a 301 redirect, just that this canonical is telling the search engine which article is the right article for the said keyword.

maybe your new post is over optimized? And also some times older pages ranks better on Google, this is also true when you ad new content to the page. The new text on the old page will index faster.

Thanks for the input but the canonical method that you mentioned here sounds too complicated. I would rather choose the first option which is to wait for the Big G and hope for the best that the keyword targeted post will be prioritized for ranking. As of right now, the old post remains on the spot. No changes at all.

does it matter as long you have ranking a post ?

Maybe its over optimized but I really paid attention to my keyword density to conform with the standards.

Yes, all I did was put the new keyword in my old post which I used to link it to the new post. But the result is that, the old post turns out to be the one that is ranking.

Yes, it does matter a lot.

My old post could be ranking on that keyword but it will get less clicks because the title and descriptions are not optimized for that particular keyword.

Overoptimization penalty

Did you mention your exact keyword in :
1 - Seo title
2 - Article title
3 - Url
4 - Sub-heading
5 - Article

Remove it from all of those and mention it only once, either in number 1 or 2

And don't send exact anchors

Thanks, I actually have all my keyword into those 5 list that you mentioned. Anyway, I will be performing the change that you mentioned here perhaps a week from now. It's because I would like to find out if this is more about Google's trust to new published posts.

OMG! I performed the changes as you stated just awhile back and then re-fetched it in my GWT. And before posting this response, I performed the check on Google for my post. And to my surprise, the new post is on the top for its targeted keyword.

I would never imagine that over optimization is the culprit.

You are right, you save me from waiting a whole week.

I hav been Jn VIP before which u need before getting promoted to Exc. Vip. I guess I forgot to renew.. gotta do that when I get to pc
