HELP - Getting sued by a game company

man... if you can stop the domain transfer!! I bet this is just a scam to get your domain for bh stuff and to get all the money they can get from you )... As someone above stated: Fight fire with fire!!! YOU OWN that domain... not even the FBI can ask you for it without paying for it ))

I thought Nigeria connection was the current highlight in scam, but this is somekind of scary, wow. I don't know if I would have transferred the domain, too, in your case.
Nevertheless I'm now a liitle bit more clever ...

This type of scam are mostly done by Vietnamese scammers. Not saying all of them are scammers but most feel they have no choice.

Sorry to say man, you got scammed..

Just park the domain name at sedo or sell it to yourself (fake acc at any offshore company) and get some privacy protection

This sounds like a scam they want $1000 only? The fact that you did not disclose the name of the company indicates it is most likely a well known game which means their company is probably worth millions or billions... So yeah you just got scammed. why don't you research the law firm that are so called representing them?

First off. If they were real companies, you would have received a next-day air manila envelop from the lawyer as well as from the company in the mail. Lawyers do not contact businesses via email.

Secondly, they would not immediately try to sue you. Real companies try to scare you first, then they try to work with you to make sure it doesn't have to go to court, because court costs are expensive and your website probably isn't worth their laywers time in court.

Lastly, they would have also contacted your web host to have the website taken down there.

I don't think they are real companies...you probably just gave your domain away and they are surprised the scam worked so they are trying to see if you will pay them too.

You should have put some content on the domain that is unrelated to their business practice and told them to go f themselves. I agree with others above who said that it sounds fishy and it most likely isn't the actual company and they probably scammed you out of the domain.

They have to find you that they can take you to court. This is not so easy. So if you can delete the email do that and you dont get any more mails.

check the page if it is still up. if yes the whole thing is a scam. if no then also forget about it. i think they can not sue you in the us. they have to sue you in the country where the domain is registered.

How a domain can be copyurighted?? either they own the domain and you can't buy it, or they don't own it and they can fuck off. honestly, it smells like scam from a mile away. anyone can send emails, even clone websites, etc..

Legal issues are not resolved by email dude, you would get a phone call at least, probably even a letter by mail.

After pasting a part of that email in Google I found another thread in which one person says he got the same email and its exact to what you got

Now for some reason I feel its some canned email being sent by some scammer and they are targeting people with domain names with trademark maybe. I am not sure but if you really have a trademark in it then you should better delete it. Once done they should not bother you. If they do keep bothering you then you are in a strong position to defend yourself as you have already done what they said and so they are can STFU!

If you already gave the domain to them then how can they still sue you? you cooperated with them and now you no longer own a copyrighted domain.

You live in Europe and they are in the USA...Do you really thing they are going to spend thousands of dollars in legal fees to fight some guy running a small website from his basement who probably has made very little money off their brand?

You got rid of the domain, that's good enough. Don't pay a cent..

Chill out and just block them man. Do you think the court will sue you for 10$ domain. The all mighty FBI closed Megaupload and this caused them troubles that they never did it again

Firstly there is some really bad advice being handed out here, people who have not got a clue what they are talking about giving you legal advice which could bite you and others on the arse.

You cannot register a domain with a trademarked term and think it is ok just because it is not registered. If you register something like CallOfDutyForum.com the company may know of its existence and permit it to be run because it benefits them, however you will always have the potential threat of them taking the site off you. All websites with TMs registered after the fact used in the same industry are bad faith, all websites that were registered before the TM but pass themselves off are bad faith, so for example you may own Iphone.net registered since 2000 but the minute the you start using the domain to promote your Iphone unboxing videos youre finished. You do not even have to use the domain, if the domain is parked and the links are that of the TM or the TMs competitor youre in the s***. If you own apple.net and use it to sell apples youre fine but I guess that is not what you were doing.

Although in your instance it is too late, for anyone else I would recommend that if you do suspect you are being conned out of your domain you simply send an email to the person who has written to you requesting an electronic copy of the letter sent because it was "badly damaged in the post by water" etc. Be vague "I received a letter from you today can you send this electronically" so that you do not end up tipping off someone who wasnt aware of your existence if it is a scam. If it is a scam then the person would not have a firstname.secondname at gamingcompany or firstname.lastname at lawfirm email address.

The last thing to say is this, although this is blackhatworld building a website on a TM is short term thinking, a poor mans quick buck.

On top of the above replies, OP make sure to see what is going to happen/what changes etc is the site that you gave away, will have. It's pretty obv. that if there will be simply replaced affiliate links and such, you were the victim of a scam. On the other hand.. amen.

you just got scamed brah. Check the IP the email came from and since you have pushed the domain, if you didn't subscribe to whois privacy check the whois record of the domain. it must have been updatd with their details. Tell them you are willing to pay the $1k let them send you an account to pay the money too lets see if it is a company account.

I remember this one case in like 2006 or somewhere around there. Somebody own something like Mike soft (mike his real name). Of course microsoft sued him, due to being similar. But I cannot find it anywhere,

First of all I suggest to give us more details like:

The domain you are talking about, the sender email or the address.

From what I saw until now I will stop wary about and go ahead. And in my opinion you have give away that domain for free.
