Hi
looking for some advice please.
I have 3 hosting accounts
1 is bluehost pro plan (although I dont think the upgrade to pro was worth and I will downgrade at renewal time) and using 55gb disk space
my main site is a photo site and awstats says it is getting 31000 unique visitors / 186000 page views and 1.7tb bandwidth per month
4 of the other sites combined get 20k visitors a month they are using wprobot and other plugins so it is being cpu throttled badly. It was worse but
I have moved 4 other to 2nd bluehost plan about a month ago. again database intensive averaging about 6000 visitors a month each.
the third accounts is on hostgator.
10 sites here, 5 main ones (the others are in varying states of development) - about 50k visitors 5gb diskspace and 20gb bandwidth. traffic is growing and heavy database usage caused hostgator to disable last night (since reanabled).
Basically all up what I have is
3 hosting accounts that are struggling.
1 main site that has high bandwidth but not excessive cpu (I think)
10-14 sites with high database usage
a collection of other sites in varying stages of development.
so combined I am getting about 100-120k visitors a month I'm using 70gb disk space, 1.8tb bandwidth (mostly from 1 site) and maxing the cpu / db allowance on all 3 plans. every site is in wordpress, most of the sites are less than 3 months old so only just starting to make money and I have to watch the budget.
I have spent the day reading on vps, cloud, servers etc and I now more confused than when I started. The main part is knowing if I go vps what levels of cpu and ram do I need? I also wondering if perhaps it is better to break down to more shared hosting plans like some of those in the marketplace with 1-2 sites per very cheap plan - especially as being a newbie the thought of setting up a server isn't appealing.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Phil
