    Hi

    looking for some advice please.

    I have 3 hosting accounts
1 is bluehost pro plan (although I dont think the upgrade to pro was worth and I will downgrade at renewal time) and using 55gb disk space
my main site is a photo site and awstats says it is getting 31000 unique visitors / 186000 page views and 1.7tb bandwidth per month
4 of the other sites combined get 20k visitors a month they are using wprobot and other plugins so it is being cpu throttled badly. It was worse but

I have moved 4 other to 2nd bluehost plan about a month ago. again database intensive averaging about 6000 visitors a month each.

the third accounts is on hostgator.
10 sites here, 5 main ones (the others are in varying states of development) - about 50k visitors 5gb diskspace and 20gb bandwidth. traffic is growing and heavy database usage caused hostgator to disable last night (since reanabled).

Basically all up what I have is
3 hosting accounts that are struggling.
1 main site that has high bandwidth but not excessive cpu (I think)
10-14 sites with high database usage
a collection of other sites in varying stages of development.

so combined I am getting about 100-120k visitors a month I'm using 70gb disk space, 1.8tb bandwidth (mostly from 1 site) and maxing the cpu / db allowance on all 3 plans. every site is in wordpress, most of the sites are less than 3 months old so only just starting to make money and I have to watch the budget.

I have spent the day reading on vps, cloud, servers etc and I now more confused than when I started. The main part is knowing if I go vps what levels of cpu and ram do I need? I also wondering if perhaps it is better to break down to more shared hosting plans like some of those in the marketplace with 1-2 sites per very cheap plan - especially as being a newbie the thought of setting up a server isn't appealing.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Phil

In short you are getting 4k-5k visitors per day. I think you will be O.K with a shared web hosting. I have a few sites getting 3000 views per day on shared web hosting and I never had any problem.

Hi (means even more coming from someone with hosting plans in their sig :) - most stuff I've seen is 'of course you need a massive or dedicated host and here is where you should get it' :) so thanks very much)

I looked at the 1.7tb of bandwidth in awstats and saw that over half it is other sites hotlinking so fixed that and hostgator gave me some recommendations (how to configure wp super cache rather than defaults and suggest using gregs seo rather than all-in-one etc etc) so I will give those changes a go, see what happens and hopefully put off a vps for abit longer :)

    Regards
    Phil

The main problem of such a huge bandwidth usage is the hotlinking. You can set hotlinking options in your Cpanel to make sure no other site steals your bandwidth.

Looking at your usages, I will suggest you following configurations :
    VPS Hosting plan :
    HDD : 100GB
    RAM : 4 GB
    CPU : 4 cores
    Bandwidth: 2TB/Month

This will costs you aprox $80/month, however, A Dedicated Server with following configurations will costs you aprox $100/month :
    HDD : 1TB
    RAM : 4 GB
    CPU : 4 cores
    Bandwidth: 10TB/Month

So, considering this fact, I will recommend you to choose a Dedicated Server Hosting plan.
