Help a complete noob challange?

first off I'm got such an inspiration from this post by t0mmy

to start off this site looks amazing and the people as well, and I'm struggling with trying to understand IM since it contains alot of Slang etc.. which google always interprets as something else so if there's a good samaritan that has the time which I guess is very little and would like to help me get started that would be great.
about me I'm really the dumby when it gets to learning stuff.. I'd expect people to tell me to read some threads tried too but it's not like having someone to teach you directly.. :'\
