The forum has been quiet lately. I like to believe that everyone is doing research and busy finding new ways to move forward. (I hope this is the case)
People need to change their mindset from taking value, to providing it.
For all the newbies reading this, it's time to adapt and start a real business (you can still spam, but it shouldn't be your only plan!). Set up a site that legitimately offers value. Turn it into a "go-to" site in a niche that's underdeveloped or lacks quality resources. If it gets slapped, it shouldn't crush you completely because SEO should not be the main traffic source in the first place.
Nowadays it's too risky to invest everything you have into seo alone. There are plenty of other sources that you should be focusing on for traffic.
When people say "screw google", "I'm going to boycott them"... Ironically, this is exactly what google wants. They want you to forget they exist and they want you to find other ways to get traffic. They want to rank sites based on how valuable they are and not because you built backlinks to it. Does SEO still work? of course it does, but you have to make google think you are building links for traffic, leads and relationships. In other words, they want you to market your site and not build links for the sole purpose of ranking higher. But who says you can't do both at the same time? Isn't that a part of what "building quality link" means?
When your site is valuable, you have a horde of fans doing the SEO for you.
