Have you ever lived somewhere you hated?

I moved to California with my family 4 years ago from Canada. I was in high school at the time, and yeah, moving in the middle of high school SUCKED.

I'm almost 20 now, and though I've gotten more used to it, I absolutely hate it here. I mean, I'm not as..happy as I used to be I guess.

I'm in community college now but will be done in 4 months, and am thinking of applying back somewhere in Canada or on the East coast (it's more my fit there).

What do you guys think?

Have you ever lived somewhere that you were unhappy?

I don't mean to sound like a brat, I'm certainly not. But anyone who has moved in the middle of high school will know what I mean. I feel like I missed out on so much. I had such a large network back where I lived. There was always something to do, I had tons TONS of close friends..but now shit sucks. I just never got used to things here. It's a completely different culture. I lived near Toronto, which is very similar (culture wise) to a lot of the Eastern states... Massachusetts, New York, etc..

PS. For some reason, I was stupid enough to post a similar question over at Yahoo Answers..and yeah, never doing that again. I think 99% of the people there are imbeciles.

I moved from chicago to southern Cal the summer between my junior and senior year in high school. That was 1973 and I fucking hated my life. I had a few friends and we were tight but I hated life.

For years. But after almost 40 years here I wouldn't live anywhere else, full time anyway. I mean if I hit the lotto I'd have an apt in Manhattan, etc. But dude, southern California has everything.

Now, that said, I recently spent a 2 year stretch in Riverside due to my wifes' job. The inland empire is the shithole of California. We recently moved to the San Diego area and it is God's country. i love it down here.

So yeah, I've lived in a place I thought was disgusting: Riverside California

It will get better man. If you want to move back badly enough I'd say go for it but it might not be as good as you remember.

i don't like where i'm living now....but that does not make me unhappy. You need to find something to make you happy, a hobby or something. I'm sure you can have fun anywhere in the world.....and after all, you live in California, so it could have been much worst. Lot of people would kill to live there.

I grew up somewhere in Oklahoma and by the time we moved to California I had grown fond of the place. I had a hard time adjusting at first but in the end I got used to it. Then I moved across the border after my parents split, and once again I hated the whole situation a bit more. Now I've gotten used to the culture and I enjoy it's nuances as well as some of the big differences.

I still get to visit San Diego (love it) a couple or more times a year, and I may go back and settle there in the near future.

I live in Bakersfield, CA.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN BRO.

It's a cage I've been trying to escape from for a while now.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. It's comforting to hear it from someone who's been through a similar experience.

Honestly, the plan isn't even to move back to Toronto specifically. It's more just to get back on the East coast, as I've felt like I liked it a lot more there.

I live in San Jose, which I believe is somewhat similar to Riverside..It's just a really DEAD city.

Well, we'll see how it turns out. Appreciate it man :)

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I should certainly appreciate where I am, and I do by all means, but I'm just being honest with myself as to the fact that I am unhappy here. It could be a lot worse though.

I haven't been there. What do you not like about it? I live in San Jose, which is seriously one of the most boring places I've ever lived haha.

Same, it's just too boring here. There's no where to go, and nothing to do. No wonder we get high reports of drug use in this city =_=.

I live in Park City, Utah. The town itself is awesome, but the condo I'm currently renting is shit. Loud neighbors, horrible management, etc. Six months on the lease and I can finally buy a house far away from all annoying neighbors.

I use to live in Oregon. And it rains all the time. Except in the summer if your lucky. The cold, grey, dark, winters seem to last 9 months. Moved away from there to sunny Nevada. And I love it here.

Good to hear. I can not wait to move to Vegas!

Chicago --- people are just awful here.

Really? I've heard a lot of good things about Chicago. What do you not like about it?

Yeah, Indiana. Sports can be fun. But the Hoosier mindset is so sports oriented as to be a little creepy. Everything boils down to sports, and who you cheer for. Indianapolis is an enlightened spot, they have basketball, football and racing. It's soooo not the place for original or "out of the box" thinking. It's a great place to live life from the sidelines.

Life's too short, don't waste your life in a place where you're miserable.
If a change of location makes a difference (and it did for me!), don't let anything stop you.
But, also be honest with yourself. Beware the comfort zone.
I was in a comfortable place that I hated. I'm now in a paradise that I love, but life's not as easy. The resulting "happiness" is my pay-off, and I'm indeed the winner.
In the long run, everything will be worth more here where I'm happy. I'm willing to work harder here as a result.
Be willing to apply yourself and get to where you're going, you'll be the richer for it!
