Have you ever hired Virtual Assistant?

Like the title says, what was your experience?
I need some simple (and extremely boring) data entry work done. I was looking to hire someone on Upwork or BHW hire a freelancer, but he/she would get access to lots of valuable data like passwords and emails because that's the nature of this work. I'm not sure how this will go down and whether I should trust those people with sth confidential like that.

If anyone has any experience or tips with this, I'd be thankful.

I have more than 100 VA (long term work), only 2 of them work on remote. The others is a local VA that I can push to sign a white law paper. Everybody have evil inside them, when evil sleep they are an angel and we don't know when the evil is wake up.

Hiring on here they need to be a Jr VIP, so there is that level of protection to an extent.

If you are hiring any VA, there has to be a level of trust. You can limit what information they have access to, but it's no different really to having a staff member working in your own office.

That is what I'm afraid of, I can't make a guy on the other side of the world sign a contract.

That is definitely a big plus on BHW, but I see people don't get many replies on their Hire a Freelancer threads. I will give it a shot maybe and see what I come up with.

The forum rules changed so that only upgraded members can reply. One reason was anyone can open an account on here, so there was the opportunity to create an account, make 15 posts and then reply to these threads. Needless to say not everyone has good intentions.

Some people just send PMs if you'd ask me!

As for the trust part, you need to do your own vetting and check their past experience&reviews if they have some.

Generally speaking, you can give them access gradually and/or give them only pieces of the puzzle so that they can not harm your business.

Then get your local VA and force them to sign an agreement. To high risk if there a sensitive data involved.

I had to get some work done that was a sensitive nature so I went local. Put an ad in my local paper and met them face to face. But it depends on your timeframe of course
 
yes i have hired VA once. Hiring VA is really a great thing according to me. Because you get all the work finished on time.

I've found an acquaintance willing to work so I think I'm going to go down the local VA route for now and see how it goes. Thanks for your replies everyone, I appreciate it.
 
How about training your relatives or best friend and then asking them to work like VA for you? It takes a lot of time but it's better than hiring a strange VA.

Yup I agree, for this kind of work it certainly is. I made a deal with one of my friends to do the work
 
Nope, never. Just do it yourself.
 
I have had multiple VA's ... most of them worked with valuable information. As long as you are crystal clear in what they need to do and how (tip: make video instruction manual for them) and you pay them on time without hassle, there will be no problems. And also go and have a chat with them on skype or something like a short interview and see what the guy is all about and what his attitude is.
