hashtags and explore

True, but the impact is not that big, especially if you are already a bit bigger A lot of people also find you via the activity feed. Friends looking up what their friends are doing.
@VapeMonkey you're right. But many here do not have the expertise of having large accounts like you. Most of us, have smaller 20K and under, and many have 5K and under accounts. So, other than buying fakes, which don't do anyone any good, we got to keep on hashtaging the F**k out of our images.

I wish I could just post a HQ image with few or no hashtags and get thousands of likes, but until I get some of your experience; it's going to be a hard road ahead.

Sure sure!

Even I'm decent sized, I keep using them. Exposure is exposure, right.

yea at first I used to use as many as possible but then I thought they get the same amount of likes or maybe like an extra 100 likes but I found that good, now I slowed down on the tags and don't use as much as I used to use now maybe like 10 or 15. Should I up my tags or keep them the same. mind you I have very good engagement.

Its actually better to have a few tagsets ready. When your older picture is hitting a certain tag, you don't want the new pic conflict with it. Just a theory.

yea I tried using different tags every post but it didn't seem to work as well as keep using the some type of tags.

Interesting theories guys and I haven't been able to consistently control new followers yet, but how about this theory:

If the theory about Explore is correct, wouldn't you see people first liking your photo, and then following you?
If I watch my Likes/Comments feed in the APP, i see tonns of people liking photos and then i see a person +new follower. However, in 99% of the cases I don't that person liking ANY of my photos. Do you see same behaviour?

My theory is that new followers, primarily, don't come from Hashtags or Explore. I am sure some do, but Hashtags/Explore produce mainly Likes. New followers come from a person following some account and IG recommending them your account as "similar". How does IG know what to recommend? Well its based if they or their friends are liking similar photos.

Have you looked at you own explore? My explore says things like "Based on Photos You Liked", "Similar To Accounts You Interact With".

Just a thought. What do you think?

that is true and also the way explore works is that I have not followed or liked some pages only stalked and it still shows recommended pages like that. and it also says accounts you interact with. even though I have never liked and commented or followed accounts like that it comes from one account so if I watch a lot of travel accounts my explore will be filled wit travel regardless if I look at that page or not.

my explore page is fucked at the moment because of my engagement groups that I'm in so it only shows the people in my group on my explore page. also my followers are into nature stuff but have not got any nature or travel stuff in my explore so I don't think it's what you friends do that influence your own explore.

I posted about it in another thread. No replies yet. It should be 2-3 posts below this one.

I agree to a certain extend. However, I think to have experienced that you can not be featured in top post of hashtags of more than 30 posts (number migt be different) at once. For instance lets say you use only small hashtags with literally no competition, you'll easily be on the top of the tag for days, then I've seen some days, where I'm not getting on top of any hashtags at all, which made me come up with this theory. For me it makes sense, so that huge accounts are not just dominanting 300 hashtags, because they post 10 times a day.

So you should have different sets ready, but I think one should be careful with the usage of too small tags.

I use tags will 100k-5m and some others that are bigger. but I have also had where with the small tags ill be up there for days but with the 5m-10m tags I only stay there for a few ours but that gets me good likes. As I read before you won't get many followers from top tags but it gets you many likes

Check the likes and see if it's from the same people as on the image with the hashtags. Most likely it is from the people that are following you.
Using hashtags gets your photo out there to the masses. Some will like it and follow you. That's all that hashtags do.

That doesn't make any sense. We are saying that we get the same amount of likes, using hashtags or not (and we don't gain followers). So no, it does not seem to get it out to the masses, which will like and follow.

The likes are most likely coming from your own followers that liked that particular photo better than others, hence you can come on the bigger hashtags. Look at your like gains, they come before you are featured on the top of hashtags, it is not that you suddenly gets a boost, as seen if you hit explore page!

I get on the top of niche specific tags from 500K to 50M daily, it does not help anything with likes or followers as compared to when I don't have tags at all.

does it still work if I use hashtags in the comments and just leave the original post with no tags?

Yes, I always do that. It looks better.
thanks just started doing that because my posts look like a clusterfuck and looks awful so looks much more clean now!
