Hashtag Strategy on Instagram

500K +

That's depends on ur strategy if u re doing f/unf you can use it always as with the latest changes u ll never go viral, if u grow up virally don't use hashtags even on small accs.

Yes Always use related # - but remember to Always change them, don't use the same for at least 15 days and use hashtags proportional to the reach/size of ur accounts

Thanks so much for your reply!

I am planning on launching a new account soon and this is going to be my most important account, so I want to start off well. I was thinking of doing a bit of F/U up to 1k followers max? Maybe less..and then stopping? I heard it's ok up to 1k followers or so? And maybe not unfollowing..just following and then unfollowing everyone (except for maybe 5-10 accounts) later on, in a couple of months? What do you think.

I plan to mostly use child accounts to grow and also enaging with other accounts (not following them all) by watching stories and liking, etc.

I'm not sure I understood. So you said it's not good to use hashtags for accounts of more than 500k+ followers, but you then said even for small accounts as well?

So if Im a business coach and I work with relationship coaches, I wouldn't post a hashtag about relationship coaches, right?

Does it matter if they're in the caption or comment? And can I put .... before the comment?

Thanks A LOT.

When your account is new IG needs to know what's it about, so, the use of hashtags is required.
I use between 8-15 and change sets now and then.
Once your account has reached the 20k followers, you wont need to use any hashtags as your account content will be set.

Thanks a lot. So say I'm a business coach for relationship coaches or fitness coaches. Do I only use hashtags about business coaches, as opposed to ones about relationship/fitness coaches?

Use everything and test.
That's what we all do.
Unfortunately there are no fixed recipes as if you were baking a cake.
Test, test, test, and see what works better FOR YOU.

Thanks. I guess I just wasn't sure because I thought that the purpose of hashtags was to get discovered by that audience, but have been reading about how they need to be relevant to your content or photo and helps IG determine what your account is about. So I wasn't sure if I could use the hashtags which my followers would be using, instead...and how I'd know whether what I'm doing is working. I guess it's probably hard to tell for a new account and when you're using different strategies?
Thanks.

Would you recommend stopping f/u then?

Do you think that following accounts up to 1k or so is ok? And then is it ok to unfollow everyone (Except for maybe 5-10) at once?

I´d suggest you to use https://displaypurposes.com/
You can type in related hashtags, such as #Berlin #architecture #architect #designer and it suggests you the best ranking hashtags (in this case even local hashtags due to the #Berlin hashtag).
You also have the ability to lookup the correlation between hashtags in the "map" selection at the top of the website (just a neat side-tool, which you probably will never need to use).

Recommended are 30 hashtags. You can post them in the post description. (for followers it might seems messy, so it´s better to post them with 5 dots as a comment.)
The comment won´t be shown in the preview picture mode, you will only see [...]
But this is also described on their website.

Using the same hashtags over and over shouldn´t be a problem (no guarantee though). But the counter-question is: Why should you use the same hashtag over and over? Are all your posts similar that you can´t find different (starting) hashtags to generate new ones?

However, don´t forget, if you´re shadowbanned you won´t even get into the hashtag ;)

The website for hashtag you recommended is the worst i have seen, the hashtags generated has no relation to the keyword i entered.

Personally, I love using hashtags in my pictures!! I've gotten 97% impressions just from using hashtags!
However, I used 30, but just remember to use them relevant to your post!

If displaypurposes is no good, what alternatives for hashtag generators would you recommend?

I know a lot of people using displaypurposes.com that have high amounts of followers.
However, if you don´t like this tool then I got another website which should do the work: https://app.sistrix.com/en/instagram-hashtags

Btw what keyword did you enter? Would be interesting what recommendations you experienced :)

How do you create a list of hashtags?

Say I want to use 11 hashtags - 3 in 100 000 - 500 000 range; 3 in 10 000 - 100 000 range; 3 in < 10 000 range and 2 as my brand name

How to find hashtags related to my niche in the above categories? I obviously need to find say 20 in each and spun them across all posts.

What niche are you in and how many followers do you have? I can happily create a list of hashtags for you :)
I've just trended on the #travel hashtag for hours and am at 73k followers!! Anything can happen
