HAF - Upload file project, need answers

Hi ! Just few questions for a possible project, if you are interested...

I have a bunch of files of rare/unique, I was thinking of uploading those in a/multiples FTP ( no website like fileshare etc).
The goal would be to share those links to private members only (a close group, that could paid a very small amount to enter, pay per link or for full access... )
I need to know costs Pro & cons / risks

In my opinion:

- pros:
1) Easier to control due to full access to your files.
2) Reduce the likeliness of having bad urls (if a file were to be deleted by a file host)
3) You can decide the download speed (keeping bandwidth in mind)

- cons:
1) Are the files legal? If yes then any VPS host suits your needs, if no then you will have more trouble finding a good host.
2) Probably more expensive than a file hosting service.
3) The setup will take quite some time if you were to make a secured system.
