[Guide] Money making website Building - Keyword research, domain name choosing - Part 1

Web Hosting - Basics

Now the next important thing is hosting for our website. Its foundation for any website. So this part will be as finding our website hosting provider and do the basic operation in the hosting server.

Hosting is storage space for our website which is always connected with internet and we can store all our data , images and videos on there. The good practice is having a domain name and hosting plan are in two different companies. So if any one of them is not as good as expected, we always have the choice to move it to another company.

When come to hosting don’t choose the free hosting and go with paid one and always go for reputed hosting companies because it has been tested and reliability will be higher.

Free hosting may seem the better option to start but you definitely feel later as it lacks with SEO and many other automations.

Some established hosting companies are - hostgator, bluehost, namecheap, siteground, greengeeks, godaddy and you could find good hosting in our market place too. Or wait for my new hosting platform (Just kidding, no plan to start in near future)

Main things to consider before you choose the Hosting.

  1. Space - If you its single site basic plan is Ok, if you plan for multiple go for unlimited.
  2. Bandwidth - same as above , choose unlimited
  3. Customer support - Reputed companies has ticketing and online chat to resolve your queries 24/7 with phone call support.
  4. Security, backup, Uptime percentage and speed - SSD drive is better.
  5. Of course price - Compare different plan with different provider.
  6. Are they provide domain email configuration - mail hosting.
  7. Linux or windows - Both are similar in terms of control panel hence Generally people opt for Linux if you are going use asp.net then Windows will be a option.
  8. Free https certificate.
  9. One click WordPress installation.

Hosting service provider check-up tips.

Find any website which is hosted on on the service provider you are going to purchase and do all your speed test, check other consideration. That way we can test before purchasing and which will give you fair idea on the performance.

Different type of web hosting.

1. Shared hosting -Its like starter package and if you go for only one website and learning purpose. This option is fine.

Cheap compare to other plan but speed can be a problem because we are sharing resources with other user that’s the reason it’s called shared hosting. Another problem in this hosting is, we are sharing IP too with other websites that may create an impact on our website if they are banned or doing some spammy work.

2. VPN - The server has been virtually divided by software and we own our resources fully. If you have the static IP in this option, then its fine as you are avoiding neighbour spamming. Recommended one for small business.

3 Dedicated server. - We got our own server and we have full control on software and hardware Hence only our site is hosted in this option. If your website gets started to thousands of visitors, then this option is good for you. All resources such as memory and CPU is only for our usage and that would increase the speed of the website. But it’s a costly option.

4. Cloud hosting. - Its the latest one, amazon AWS and google clouds are some example. Unless you are good in technical, I won’t recommend this one.

Linking Domain DNS with hosting server - Nameserver.

Once you purchase the hosting , you will get all the details to your email such as Control panel link, username , password and nameserver (Generally two name server) information.

Now follow the below steps to make our domain name points to hosting nameservers.

  1. Login to our domain name company website.
  2. Goto my account and mydomain list area.
  3. Click our domain name and that will take DNS management page ( In Godaddy , In other hosting provider also should be very similar as nameserver)
  4. Goto bottom of the page and click Change (see the picture)
  5. From that select custom options.
  6. Enter your hosting nameserver1 and nameserver2 which you got it in your email.
  7. Click save button.

Generally, it will take 1 hour to 24 hours to take the changes effect. Now we linked the domain and hosting plan together.

Now we could install WordPress in our hosting and start work on website which we will cover into next part as this part is purely on hosting.

Using FTP in webhosting - File sharing

Now we have hosting and most of the time we have our website related data such as website design, images will be in our local computer. So using FTP (File transfer protocol), we could transfer files between our local computer and hosting server very easily. Like drag and drop.

  1. Search in Google, Filezilla which is the most used FTP software
  2. You would get this website - https://filezilla-project.org/ - From there you could download FTP file as per your local computer operating system and install it.
  3. Open Filezilla - File Menu and Site Manager.
  4. Click New site in the dialog box - In the left panel enter your site name to identify in-case if we are using multiple site.
  5. In the right side enter your website FTP host name (you have received in the email under Host filed) and change login type as normal, enter user name and password. ( See the image)
  6. Click connect button.

That’s it, now you have connected it. In the left side you could see the local computer files and right side web hosting server. Now you could simply drag and drop any file you want and it would be in your hosting server. (see image)

All website home page is started with index.html and will be placed in the public_html folder. Check it out yourself in your hosting webserver. So simply FTP is a protocol that enable us to transfer the file from our local computer to our website server.

Domain E-mail handling and mail hosting

One of the best benefits when you get in the hosting is creating and handling multiple emails. You will have better control on your email. You could use it for all purpose like social media and web 2.0 creation, benefits are unlimited and it’s very easy to create and handle.

  1. Get into hosting cpanel.
  2. You could see the E-mail icon under Mail section.
  3. Click on it.
  4. Create user name, select domain name and password.

Now you could access all your email by going the site yourwebsite/webmail page. Enter your user name and password, Choose your webmail interface and access all your email.

More learning about hosting tools

Login to your hosting control panel and you will lot of tools on there. We may not use all the tools but still wise to know about all. Generally, they provide Getting started guide and Video tutorial of How to do all operation. So watch them and read them and get familiar yourself. Knowledge is power here.

You guys may feel that i am going slowly. Its hard to find the time to put it in as I am working in office. I try to make it faster and stay tuned for the 3rd part.

Any question and suggestion are always welcome.

2. Bandwidth - same as above , choose unlimited

I think readers could be misled by the word "unlimited bandwidth" as there is no such thing. There are certain limits so before signing up read the first the TOS or AUP.

If you exceed or come near those limits your host could:
- send a notice before locking your account
- lock your account without warning ("Hey, did you not read the TOS?")
- charge you extra for excess usage

Decent guide...

I think adding CloudFlare to manage your DNS is a plus, and with it's feature it's really an added value to your efforts.

unlimited bandwidth" as there is no such thing. There are certain limits so before signing up read the first the TOS or AUP.
You r right. Nothing is unlimited but if our website reached that stage we should have been in good position to move dedicated server with greater bandwidth limit
