[Guide] Proof that extern views dont improve ranking

Its similar to the DA of a domain.
You get authority when someone searches for a term, then finds and clicks on your video, then watches your video, then subscribes and likes your video. But you will gain authority for that keyword and thats how your future videos will rank for that keyword

i dont need to, should i just do experiments just for you, your HIGHNES. All i have said are from experience, if you dont believe me then thats your choice but dont come at me like some dude" ouu if you dont provide screenshots that never happened"

99% of traffic comes from recommended videos, nobody searches for shit these days in most popular niches.

Depends on the niche. When i had my gaming channel 80% was from search. Only 2%from suggested

If you don't optimize properly you may never be able to rank for a specific keyword. If your video doesn't perform well organically with the audience you're targeting, you may never rank for it regardless of channel authority or external metrics whether it's real traffic or fake.

In this case, your average watch time for keyword search is 51 seconds. Depending on the competition, this might be too low to rank regardless of what you do.

And CTR while one of the most important ranking factors, doesn't matter on it's own. For example, let's say you have higher CTR then competitors but people are watching your video for 51 seconds, then clicking 'back', clicking another video in search and engaging with it better. That could kill the ranking. CTR and watch time together are very important, other user behaviour that the analytics don't show you are also likely just as important.

The video must be right for the audience your targeting rankings for, otherwise the boost is useless.

I agree that channel authority and click through rate may help a bit but the organic audience video performance is king so that's why this kind of test isn't mostly useless without the full context.

If possible, next time you should include in your post info on what your video is about and what your competitiors videos you are trying to outrank are about, as well as their video durations, when they were posted and their metrics. Or whatever info you think is relevant to the ranking that you can collect. It would be cool if you could tracking the ranking changes over the first couple of weeks as after a day or two ranking can drop then rerank later so ending test too soon or early is useless and rank changes are interesting.

But regardless, I appreciate this post. Not many people share testing/results here anymore and it can help the community a lot <3

I agree 100%. 65% Retention rate on 1minute video performs much less compared to 20% in a 10 minutes video. You need to give minutes to YT. You should check the relative audience retention.

Explain what channel authority is? and prove those metrics help with experiments? because my conclusion is that having a lot of subs is increasingly irrelevant, unless you are FAMOUS and people actively wait for your next video and are fucking addicted to your content. Otherwise it's just "i was watching this and clicked subscribed" and the number goes up but doesn't translate in better ranking in an algorithm viewpoint.

If YT was only about the number of subs, it would be unfair and something against the principle that they need to attract always new creators to keep the content fresh.

The number of subs is irrelevant if they don't come back and watch your content. Actually, I believe it hurts your ranking.

My experiment in this is you have to post content around a very specific item/niche/topic 3-4 times in a relatively short time frame. Series of video around the very same topic with slightly different angle. That's what gives you the "Authority".

If I have a baking channel and I do a review of the perfect spatula for the pro baker, it is in line with what I do BUT, is that my first review of the entire channel?

Another example?

How to tie a tie video (70M+ views). Marshmallow (the famous DJ) posted a video of "How to tie a tie with Marshmallow" and guess what? 0 engagement and not ranking.

Another Crucial aspect for ranking is getting the time and date right.

In my little channel if I post at 9am or 6pm I get more engagement, more views and videos rank better.

Another example on the opposite side: Mr Beast.

His videos are not built for Ranking. He doesn't use tags, SEO optimized description, nothing. Only eye-catching thumbs and titles. What he does is creating a sensation. His videos are built for that kind of audience, and it works for him. I imagine his CTR is one of the highest in YT. BUT they don't rank for Searched Keywords and what would you search to find him?

This applies to all entertainment content. Nobody searches for anything, they jump from one recommended video into another. The people that consistently get millions of views is because they become famous and people actively search for it but that's the 1% of people that become basically celebrities. People become addicted to their content.
And of course the algorithm is pushing the shit out of these channels. We also don't know if and how much do they invest in the "promote" thing which I've never tested (im talking about the built in "promote" button.

This is what my entire channel is and video success varies wildly. Im assuming there are certain CTR + watchtime tresholds that you have to cross and sometimes it's unlucky and the CTR is not good enough even if watchtime is great at the begining and you are dead. But even after the CTR went higher and watchtime was maintained, my video didn't get recommended.

The thumbnail is actually great, I dont believe theres anything wrong with it. So it has to be bad luck. Then, because YT removed separate charts for subs gained and lost, i dont know if an abnormal amount of subs unsubbed because of the video or not which is a factor I would like to know if it has an impact or not.

Anyway all of my fucking videos are of the same subniche with variations on it, they all do go watchtime wise, CTR is random as fuck, some with the same CTR go viral, some dont, all are similar lenght. Honestly feels like a fucking lottery and after working for a month in an animation it feels horrible if its not recommended. I hope my next upload performs fine. Im already paranoid thinking about what title to use because I dont know if I should use words at the begining that are more catchy and leave keywords after that or not.

In my little channel if I post at 9am or 6pm I get more engagement, more views and videos rank better.

From what i've read, you dont have to post at peak traffic hours, you have to post before that so the video gets indexed, not sure how many hours. Im debating if I should upload thursday or friday aiming for the weekend peak traffic. My peak hours judging by realtime traffic are around 4 to 9pm GMT so I guess I should upload a couple hours before that on friday but who fucking knows. Ive tried different times and days, each video acts different.

There's also people in my niche reuploading the same content to make 10 minutes videos, so 5 minutes of original content then 5 of reuploaded content, barely no SEO (no keywords) and ranking a lot. It's frustrating, seems like a fucking lottery, some channels hit the jackpot and get promoted a lot.

You do know 3.5% CTR is really low?
Try and aim for atleast 10% and then come back with your results

I assume you were posting on my thread above.

Well, the thing is, even if it was low at the beginig, the CTR went up to levels of other videos that are getting recommended, with less retention.

So right now, the video has acceptable CTR for the niche compared to my other videos, same niche, better retention, and its still not getting fucking recommended. You tell me.

The thing with youtube, you need a good CTR in the beginning. And a good CTR to get a video recommended alot would be 10%. Anything below 10% is meh

tead work on your Channel authority (most important but hardest metric) and also y
Hey Everyone its Tiger again with a new thread about Youtube Ranking and the Algo again since my last thread was very helpful.

In this video I will show you, that without channel authority and a good specific ctr (not the general ctr in the analytics tab) you cant rank any videos. Even when the views are organic.

So what did I do?

I took an old unused channel and uploaded 2 OC Videos. Then I posted one of the videos on a huge subreddit which went to the frontpage of that subreddit. So all the views were organic.

The results in less than 48 hours on a brand new channel:
xx3aFRe

Great views, lots of comments, lots of likes. Everything organic. This video got me 114 subs on my first day and its still growing. So it should rank like hell and get tons of views from suggested and browse feature right?

Lets dive deeper into the analytics:

40En8kc

Retention was 65% which is above average (yes it was a short video as a test but the results dont differ for a long video). Still I just got 1% of my views from suggested views and browse feature is even below that:

9GcpRr7

And we are talking about real human T1 views from reddit (can prove that if needed) so its no comparison to the low quality bot views.

Conclusion:

Dont expect to rank insanly with just feeding engagement from external sources (be it bot views or organic). It helps a little bit like shown in this case study but you wont be famous over night. Instead work on your Channel authority (most important but hardest metric) and also your specific ctr (each ctr ranks seperatly (if you want a lot of suggested views a high ctr in search wont help you))

If you want to read more case studies or guides about ctr, retention or channel authority just tell me. Also feel free to ask any questions and I may answer them if I find time
if u want to rank a video using paid HR views.. should i deliver it immediately upon uploading or in a certain time?

This is pure liar, external but DEPEND on the ratio, algorithm still choose your video to rank up IF your external is around 100-800 views, if too many, algorithm will think u are trying to fraud, i have a video with best effort and got 6k external, after that my video is dead because it's too many views from external, but if i only get around few hundreds, algorithms will choose my video as always !

You need to understand that many factors affect results that you get on YouTube. Your situation is different.

Does this apply to longer videos? 2-4 minute videos? I should keep my external views under 800?

I only focus on the quality of the videos that I create, and I get good results. No need to buy bot engagement.

thanks for the advices i will try to improve the engagments of my channel :)

Yes work on any video, it's not about 100-800, but try to adjust it equal to your organic views, if you think those external above your organic, stop from there.
Btw from my POV, organic views mean it come from youtube itself, not from sharing to social media.( eg, browse feature, suggested views, search )

oh ok got it. thanks for the tips!

Suggested source helps the most, even in youtube puts a video in trending section it considers Suggested Source number of views
