Great tips. Here's my contribution:

Don't use ADMIN as your login. Use something hard to guess. Use a mix of upper case and lower case letters.

Also, make sure you use a totally random (characterwise) password not just alphanumeric.

Hey thanks for the comment buddy. Do look at the other plugins too. Last time I checked this plugin, it wasn't updated since a while. I currently use "Limit Login Attempts" plugin for the same reason. So, try that out if "Login Lockdown" is not yet updated.
