This have been on my mind for the last couple of hours. The direction Google takes with user intent and understanding what the user expects to get from a specific search is very apparent in Google Ads, too. With time, their broad match type (especially paired with automated bidding strategy) became broader, yet, it converts better and in higher scale, thanks to queries ads would've never been served on in the past.

Great post brother! How i would go about finding out what the USER would search after the first query ? As you said that seems to be very important for topical authority and for articles to rank. Imagine i create an article about Nike Shoes, what should i expect people to search next in order to anticipate that content ?

You can't, but the insight you have into it is what's ranking in the top 3 to top 5.
Don't rely on tools. Study them manually and make a list of topics to cover.
For longtails, this is generally super quick/easy and you don't have to "study them", but for bigger keywords you have to study them carefully and try to cover all the topics everything in the top 5 does. Aim to make it even better than any single top 5 result, covering everything they do, but not only what they cover, but in a way that you feel is more useful to the user and gives them a better experience.

What you might start to think about is "What would the user potentially want to find out next" and write about those, and link to them. Not everything SHOULD be in the 1 article. You can aim to be a complete resource for the user with the article they landed on the entry point.
You're welcome. Yeah, I write for many reasons, but it's highly beneficial to me too. I could just write privately in my zettelkasten of course, which I do too, but I prefer to turn the knowledge into articles and share them.

I would like to keep it very short, and to my limited understanding, Google is moving away from only recognizing value from the links, but from the overall interaction a site has with its readers. And to that end, google is spending more time to understand user intent, the semantics of the intent, and the cluster of related topics which comes under the topical authority of a given niche.
In short, rank and rent small niche sites days are just about over. Build real sites that offer a comprehensive solution in any niche, and its associated sub-niches and you should be getting a lot of traffic that you would be able to retain and bank from.
That’s my two cents!

I felt the same as well. Last year I builded more than 30 small niche site in last year alone. Mostly all ranked #1 page of google for highly completive niche.
this year after March, it worked 2 out 10. So I moving small niche site as well.

When you have scooped out and covered every topic and subtopic to their rightful length, including the ones in the found Reditt, Quora and other PAA sites, as well as those found in the podcasts, blogs and that of the YT and Threads you can assume to have reached topical authority.

Some advised me. When you want to write an article, write the best article on the internet on that particular subject and that requires indepth research and reasoning and that takes time.
It took me over a week to write an article that required indepth analysis on data. I published the article today and it's ranking on number two far above established sites in that niche ( news related).
I knew the article was going to rank because I really went all out and possibly covered everything. Mind you, this site is one month old with zero backlinks.
