[GUIDE] Future-Proof Backlink Strategies: Build Once, Benefit Forever (2026 Edition)

This was really helpful for me. As a beginner in SEO, I’d like to ask whether comment links are effective as backlinks. Our web dev manager asked me to find lots of places to leave comments and include anchor-text links as backlinks. After reading your post, I’m genuinely unsure whether that’s a good idea..

That’s 2000s SEO strategy . I wouldn’t waste time building those in age of AI . Moreover they little to less value and regarded as spam by most professional tools . For instance AHREFS .

you’re right about this — our rankings have been slipping, so guest posts seem like a clearly better option that we need to switch to? We’ve accumulated a lot of comment links in the past; should we audit them (e.g., low-DA, off-topic) and remove or disavow the weak ones?

funny how everyone talks about forever links but still checks ahrefs every morning like its a slot machine

if you're not future-proofing backlinks in 2025, you're basically building on sand.

stealing competitor backlinks is still the best move if you know how to filter the junk

But I don't think "stealing" backlinks from competitors is that easy. Many people are not in the position to create the same backlinks they see in tools like Arhefs or Semrush. Many of these backlinks need a big investment and others a good contact network. Unfortunately most of the backlnks will not be recreated on our websites...

nothing says forever like backlinks that actually survive the next update

Great insights. Focusing on long-term, sustainable backlink strategies definitely works better than quick-win tactics. I’ve also seen that links built with strong relevance and proper internal support tend to survive Google core updates more consistently. Thanks for sharing this approach.
