GSA Search Engine Ranker worth it?

From my initial test using the new "always use keywords to find target sites" (new button under the search engines box) it seems that leaving this unchecked yields better results. I've only tested it briefly but having this checked and having it add your keywords to every search seems to bring up results that don't match engines as well as if it was only using the built in footprints. Basically I've noticed it building links faster with it unchecked.

Has anyone else tried it? Anyone noticing better results with/without it?

I only tested it briefly so I could be wrong. It might be a good thing to turn on after the campaign has been running a while and it has slowed down with finding new targets.

The link building will obviously be slower, but since it posts the links on sites that are relevant to your niche, the links are ultimately better imho. Plus, it keeps out the porn sites without using a bad word list most of the time, and the badword list can also cause false negatives(Eg. ass will rule out a domain name with class in it).

Plus, in the long run, you can find more websites, since each footprint is limited to 1000 results but if you add keywords, you can get over a million results. It follow the slow and steady approach rather than the quick and rash one.

Think of it as the same way as scraping with scrapebox. If you only use the footprints, it'll show a thousand results per footprint with a higher success rate but lower relevancy, but if you add a few thousand keywords, it'll give millions of results, with a comparatively lower success rate but higher relevancy, which is undoubtedly better in the long run.

Yes I understand how its suppose to work. I suggested this feature to him over 2-3 weeks ago but he said he wanted to do some "testing" with it first. The only problem with the relevancy thing is a lot of the platforms won't have very many if any relevant sites in your niche. If my niche is on "treadmills" how many directories, forums, wiki's, docu sites, etc would be dedicated to "treadmills"? Most likely none ... so the relevancy thing doesn't always work. It will work for blogs, trackbacks, etc.

I think its a great feature to have because we're able to turn it on/off and it will help us find more target sites as the campaigns start to slow down + like you said it might help out a bit with relevance for certain platforms. I'm just trying to get some initial testing and the first thing I noticed was the speed decrease so that's why I mentioned it to see what anyone else is noticing with it.

if there's a single mention of treadmills on the directories, forums, any of the wiki pages, or any of the docs, it'll be there in the results. ;)

But yes, it depends a lot on the niche. I personally prefer scraping thousands of keywords in the broad niche(In this case, fitness), and then work with that.

What do you use to scrape so many keywords !? SB, Keyword Scout ?! I still need to find a good keywords tool and need recommendations

semrush + ultimate niche finder(or Keyword scout works too).
If you want to make extra sure you get all the websites, scrape the resultant keywords with scrapebox as well, but the amount of duplicate urls will be higher.

I'll start a thread giving away free semrush keyword reports soon, you can try that. Till then, get the free keywords from semrush, throw them in ultimate niche finder, and get suggestions in broad match.

Speaking of keywords, how many keywords do you guys usually input on the 'Keywords' box? I only put like 3-6, since the pop-up tip just said it should be more than one.

Depends on the niche but I usually put in hundreds. Never more than about 500 though.

I put in hundreds of keywords as well ... I really have no limit. If I can scrape 1,000 keywords for my niche, then by all means I'll add them but usually at a minimum I put in a few hundred.

Do not forget to tick the Also Found new targeted keywords box so GSA will scrape more keywords. If you can find them pressign Tool button. There select more keywords relevant to your niche.

Thanks. I'll be sure to scrape for more keywords.

What I don't understand though is lately I'm having a lot of "Verification Failed" and the submission rate significantly slowed down. I had like a few thousand submitted on the first day with only a few KWs. Now I have like only a hundred. Is this because of the few keywords? Or because of the "Verification Failed"? I checked the websites of the "Verification Failed" and they are blogs that are open for comments, though I'm not sure if they're AA. Even so, why did it not try to comment on?

OK, I need to edit this big time.. This may be useful to others.
I was getting some verified links on General Blogs which I thought were appearing to ignore my OBL filter.

Sven has clarified that if you have any blog links which appear to be on splogs over your OBL filter it is because GSA is so freakin' awesome it verifies a link if it is present and adds it to the database even if it did not post it.

Hence some previous backlinks to some of my sites on blogs are being picked up, BUT they were not posted by GSA.

Has anyone noticed Blogs - General Blogs ignoring OBL filter?
On a new project run overnight, this morning 4 verified are on splogs with 4-6000k of OBL. On further checking I find on this platform only, now and again the rules for OBL have been missed. Don't know if it's just new ones or has been happening for while.

EDIT: Just had some more posted on splogs with an established project so have emailed Sven.

Do you have the box checked to post to competitors backlinks? That seems to make it ignore those settings.

Cheers Anon I was just re-writing and editing my above post yet again! I have that unchecked.
Sven emailed me to advise GSA verifies links it finds even if they're not posted by GSA.
Wonder how it checks though out of interest.

3.22 - new: a keyword is now used for more engines to search for new targets
- new: fun engine added that uses a faked user agent (put it to referrer type)
- new: option to always use one of your keywords to find new targets

I cant seem to find the option "to always use one of your keywords to find new targets". Am I just blind or what?

It just checks if the link exists on the page or not, it doesn't verify it with the "Submissions" database before adding to the verified database.

This can be avoided, by selecting:
Project Data > Settings > Options > If an option can't be filled (like category): "Chose Random"

The software actually closes any popups automatically after a fixed timeout period.

Thank you for highlighting this! Some of the program's features are well hidden, it's like treasure hunting ;)
(horay my first post :)

This is so nice.. I usually lose 10 Imagetyperz credits per day (I use it only for GSA) and now I have been using 40 credits for about 2 weeks and I still have 28 left :D
This new CS + Andrei's captcha package is so nice :D

Also gotta love those new updates

Hey guys another quick one.

I have had GSA running for almost 8 days and I have these results (see image)

Bildschirmfoto 2012-06-03 um 14.54.19.png

Except for the one project that is highlighted, all of them have the following settings:

Skip greater than 100 outbound, Skip below PR1, I have the huge bad words list from this thread and I just have comments and trackbacks activated with the built in comment and trackback text. The first project, the one with 220 verified links, has also Forums activated.
All of these projects have 4 to 10 keywords in the keywords input field, Search Engines for UK and US selected, the two options "also analyze competitors backlinks" and "always use keywords to find target sites" are not checked.

I am not sure but it seems to me that these numbers are pretty low. What do you think?
