I'm an Amazon marketer who does tasks for Amazon sellers like listing optimisation, ranking campaigns etc.

I've got work in the past via posting in FB groups, but this is pretty hard as most Facebook groups for Amazon sellers ban promotion so you will get your post removed immediately if you mention a service. You can get work by going into freelancer specific groups, but of course those are super saturated.

I wonder if anyone has tried the strategy of growing your own group?

So in my case it would be making a group for Amazon Sellers, maybe even more specific than that like a group about Amazon rankings or listing optimisation. Then post regularly helpful guides and explainers, invite people to the group, use FB ads to grow it.

Don't mention your service at all until the group has a decent audience then subtly mention it here and there or even link it in the group description if you can do this without putting people off.

Do you think this is viable? Anyone got experience doing it?

And are the methods I mentioned the only way to grow it, or do you have any other ideas to quickly build an audience in an FB group?

I also wonder about the potential of buying one, if you see a group that is active and full of members but doesn't seem to have active mods. But that's though as they likely won't be checking messages at that point.

I am surprised there aren't people buying and selling groups on here

It is a good idea, completely feasible for amazon sellers. It would be better if you build it as a long-term sales channel with good content instead of just posting to get customers in the short term.

starting your own group is a solid strategy, but it takes time and effort. focus on providing massive value first and build a real community to attract members, then you can introduce your services later

i am currently implementing this for some product now, community building is the way to go for most product, infact community building is the new seo like method to get traction as early as possible

Hi there! Growing your own Amazon seller group is actually a brilliant strategy! I've seen service providers build successful communities this way. Here's how to do it effectively in Facebook:

Create the group with clear value proposition, then use Facebook Ads Manager → "Engagement" campaigns → target Amazon seller interests to drive joins. Post 2-3 valuable guides weekly before any soft promotion.

Use Facebook Events within your group for live Q&As - this boosts engagement significantly. Cross-promote in complementary (non-competing) groups by providing helpful answers and mentioning your group naturally.

Invite your existing connections, and encourage members to invite others with referral incentives. I've seen groups grow from 0 to 5,000+ members in 6 months using consistent value + targeted ads.

What specific Amazon niche are you thinking of focusing the group on, and have you started creating educational content that could seed the initial posts?

Thanks, this is an awesome post!!

My main niche is organic ranking campaigns and listing optimisations. I have a lot of experience with indexing and ranking different products so I want to attract people that want to rank their product organically. So mostly anything to do with that. I have a lot of screenshots of rank increases from Helium10 that I can use for case studies, explanations of how organic ranking works etc.

But of course anything helpful to Amazon sellers would be relevant to the group, so also PPC, imagery, ways to promote Amazon products off Amazon, etc.

I haven’t started creating educational content specific to the group, because this is something new to me and I need to learn how to write them well. I have written thousands of blog posts over the years though, so I am accustomed to writing educational content for Amazon sellers in general, just not on Facebook groups.

It's also a viable idea but a long term strategy. Besides i think that you likely need a fanpage more than a group

Oh really? What makes you say that?

I don’t have experience with the difference, but off the top of my head, it seems like pages would be easier to get followers but harder to get engagement. Do you disagree ?

Maybe both is an option, almost like a mother child scenario?

Growing your own niche Facebook group for Amazon sellers can work well, as long as you focus on value first and promotion later. Consistently post actionable tips, case studies, and success stories to build trust, then introduce your services subtly. To grow faster, combine organic invitations with targeted FB ads and collaborations with other Amazon-related communities. Buying an inactive group is possible but rare, and many admins either don’t respond or Facebook restricts ownership transfers. Long-term, your own engaged group is usually the safer bet.

It’s definitely viable if you approach it as a long-term community project. Focus on sharing practical, actionable content that solves problems for your niche.

Yes, growing your own niche FB group works especially if it’s tightly focused, high-value, and not salesy at first. Use consistent educational posts, engage members daily, and invite via DMs, related group interactions, and collaborations. Buying an existing group can work but is tricky due to inactive admins and trust issues.

You can advertise with hidden content

What does this mean? Putting the ads on a private page?
No, it's creating an ad campaign that hides the offending content, so your ads can easily pass Facebook review.

I think your approach is solid. The key with FB groups is consistency and hyper-relevant value. People stay when they feel they’re learning something they can apply right away.

If you want to grow faster without spending much on ads, try:
  • Answering Amazon-related questions on Quora/Reddit and linking your group in your profile.
  • Partnering with other small FB group admins for “content swaps.”
  • Posting short, practical tips in other communities with a soft “for more like this, join my group” line.
Buying a group can be an option, but engagement is fragile, the audience has to like your style, so warming them up first is key.

Done right, a group becomes an evergreen traffic source for your business.
