Growing a Facebook Group

I'm an Amazon marketer who does tasks for Amazon sellers like listing optimisation, ranking campaigns etc.

I've got work in the past via posting in FB groups, but this is pretty hard as most Facebook groups for Amazon sellers ban promotion so you will get your post removed immediately if you mention a service. You can get work by going into freelancer specific groups, but of course those are super saturated.

I wonder if anyone has tried the strategy of growing your own group?

So in my case it would be making a group for Amazon Sellers,maybe even more specific than that like a group about Amazon rankings or listing optimisation. Then post regularly helpful guides and explainers, invite people to the group, use FB ads to grow it.

Don't mention your service at all until the group has a decent audience then subtly mention it here and there or even link it in the group description if you can do this without putting people off.

Do you think this is viable? Anyone got experience doing it?

And are the methods I mentioned the only way to grow it, or do you have any other ideas to quickly build an audience in an FB group?

I also wonder about the potential of buying one, if you see a group that is active and full of members but doesn't seem to have active mods. But that's though as they likely won't be checking messages at that point.

It is a good idea, completely feasible for amazon sellers. It would be better if you build it as a long-term sales channel with good content instead of just posting to get customers in the short term.

starting your own group is a solid strategy, but it takes time and effort. focus on providing massive value first and build a real community to attract members, then you can introduce your services later

i am currently implementing this for some product now, community building is the way to go for most product, infact community building is the new seo like method to get traction as early as possible

My main niche is organic ranking campaigns and listing optimisations. I have a lot of experience with indexing and ranking different products so I want to attract people that want to rank their product organically. So mostly anything to do with that. I have a lot of screenshots of rank increases from Helium10 that I can use for case studies, explanations of how organic ranking works etc.

But of course anything helpful to Amazon sellers would be relevant to the group, so also PPC, imagery, ways to promote Amazon products off Amazon, etc.

I haven’t started creating educational content specific to the group, because this is something new to me and I need to learn how to write them well. I have written thousands of blog posts over the years though, so I am accustomed to writing educational content for Amazon sellers in general, just not on Facebook groups.

I don’t have experience with the difference, but off the top of my head, it seems like pages would be easier to get followers but harder to get engagement. Do you disagree ?

Maybe both is an option, almost like a mother child scenario?
