Growing 2 Affiliate Websites [Journey]

Which one did you used 1GB memory or 3GB

Both are using the 1GB option, it seems to be more than enough for now.

With DO the problem is you don't have Cpanel so it's hard to manage webmail

This is true, there is no Cpanel unless you install one yourself. However there's plenty of ways to set-up webmail with DO, just have a look on Google.

What I did during May:

I put together a list of low competition keywords and grouped the similar/related keywords then began creating article guidelines for each group. So far, I've finished the article plans for website 1 and they are now ready to be written up. I still need to complete the article plans for website 2. I also uploaded 1 article to website 1 and optimized the website (Fixed meta descriptions and titles on old posts, also had the page speed optimized).

Plans for June:

This month I want to plan all the articles for website 2 and begin ordering/writing the articles I’ve already planned for website 1.

Current Stats:

Website 1 (May):

Revenue: $42.71

Visitors: 2,044 UV

Article Count: 42

Website 2 (May):

Revenue: $30.55

Visitors: 565 UV

Article Count: 53

Total Revenue (April): $73.26

-I use a few different tools (Ahrefs, Semrush, KWKeg, etc..) and use my own manual analysis
-I just create a basic template which I use to structure the content when I write it, or If I'm paying someone to write the article then this shows them exactly how I want it. The template usually involves the title, keywords I want included and the H tags.
-Can't remember exactly how many articles I had in the first month but I was adding about 10 posts a month to each website.

Good luck with your journey, let me know how it goes;)

Did you start your website in April 2019?
Nah both websites were started last year in June and worked on till September then left till now. Details are in the original post.

Good luck pal. Seems like a realistic goal. Just keep working towards it slow and steady. Try and minimise risk and offer some real value to your visitors.

Got it thank you

Last summer I began working on 2 affiliate websites. I worked on them between June and September and then left them until now, a year a later. I haven’t touched them since then apart from updating their plugins and themes. I didn’t have time to maintain them due to University, however now I’m completely free for the summer. Therefore, I intend on working on them again and hopefully boosting their income.

This will be a journey and not a guide, so I won’t be going into much detail on everything I’m doing. I may say what I’ve done but I may not say how I’ve done it. Feel free to ask questions though I may not answer them all. Also, feel free to leave me a PM if you’re also on a similar journey and would like to connect.

The Websites:

The websites consist of roughly 50% affiliate content (Buyers guides, Top products list, etc) and 50% informational content (With the odd affiliate links here and there). Currently they’re only promoting Amazon products, though in the future I plan on experimenting with other affiliate programs.

Both websites generate a small number of monthly visitors and revenue. It isn’t much but it is nice to have some money coming in whilst I’m at university and not even touching the websites.

The Plan:

My main priority is producing more content for the websites. Currently they both have about 50 articles each, 75% of which were written by myself however I did purchase a few. By September 2019, I’d like to get both websites up to between 75 and 100 articles each.

I also want to optimize both websites on-page SEO and performance. This will include going through older articles and experimenting with their on-page to find what works best. I don’t plan on working on off-page SEO for a while, but it may be something I start this summer.

This Thread:

I’ll update this thread every month with a brief summary of everything I’ve done in relation to the two websites, as well as their monthly visitors’ revenue, and number of articles it currently has. If I have time, I might drop a quick update every week or so. I have other ventures that I’m currently working on which won’t be mentioned in this thread so I may not look like I’m getting a heap of work done every month.

Hi,
i was thinking on starting amazon affiliate website, but to have 100 articles and just below $100/month seems a bit low in my opinion.
Is this a normal payout of 100 articles?

also i wanted to know how many of these articles rank in the first 3 positions

You could make a lot more with a lot less than 100 articles, depends on your approach. Only half the articles on these websites are affiliate content and no link building or social media has been done. I have had a website making over $400 a month with less than 20 articles however it was solely based on products reviews and I worked on a lot of off-page SEO. I'm trying to build these websites to be more authoritative and long term.

I'm not currently tracking the keywords so I'm not too sure of all their positions however this is something I plan on doing sometime soon.

What I did during June:

I noticed that both websites lack interlinking. Most posts had none or very little internal links. Because of this, I went through every post on Website 1 and added 2-4 internal links to related posts. I’ve also gone through about half the posts on Website 2 and done the same.

I finished planning all the articles I want to write for the next few months. I’ve added 7 articles to Website 1 and 2 articles for Website 2 so published a total of 9 articles this month.

In the beginning of the month I noticed a significant drop in visitors on Website 2, so I put my site into Ahrefs and found thousands of spammy backlinks. Looked as though my site had been hit with some negative SEO so I grabbed the domains and submitted a disavow file into the GSC. A week after this I noticed my traffic started to go up again, so I hope this fixed it.

Plans for June:

I want to continue pumping out content for both websites and need to finish interlinking the posts on website 2.

I’ve also decided to start building links for website 1. I’m starting to see some growth without link building however I think I can speed up the growth by introducing some link building to my plan. My focus is content now, but I’ll start building a few natural links every month. Nothing crazy, just some forum and Q&A links with the odd guest post.

Current Stats:

Website 1 (June):

Revenue: $79.37

Visitors: 2,404 UV

Article Count: 49

hello, wanted to make you some questions :
1-how much work do you put monthly?
2-do you write your articles?
3-have you monetized the websites?

1) Probably about an hour or two a day. So roughly 30 to 60 hours a month.
2) I write most of them, about 75% of them.
3) I use Amazon affiliate links, that's all for now but when my traffic picks up, I'll incorporate other methods.

Looks like a good journey. Will follow you,

How much did you spend on the websites so far?

Thanks, really appreciate it. More than happy to connect, feel free to drop me a PM and we could help eachother out.

How much did you spend on the websites so far?

Haven't been tracking my expenses to be honest but probably about $1,000 so far.

What I did during July:

This month I finished interlinking the posts on website 2. So now both websites are properly interlinked. I have posted 2 articles to website 2 and 6 articles to website 1. Clearly, I’m focusing more on website 1 now. I started a small outreach campaign for website 1, I’ve sent out over 100 automated emails and got 5 responses so far. I’ve also created social media accounts for both websites (Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest) and set-up IFTTT to automatically share new articles from the websites onto all of the social media accounts.

Progress

Website 2 seems to have fully recovered from the negative SEO attack and is now doing better than before, probably due to the interlinking. I’m very happy with the results and now can’t wait to continue growing the website.

Website 1 is growing well, I’m extremely happy with how things are going. So far, all the growth has been completely whitehat, just posting more articles and optimizing the pages.

Here you can see the growth of site 1 on Ahrefs, the website has spiked since I've started this journey.

Plans for August:

I want to continue pumping out content for both websites. As mentioned last month, I’ve decided to start building links and create social media channels so that the websites continue their rapid growth. I’ll only be building a few quality links a month; I don’t want to ruin the websites with a ton of spammy links. I’ll be replying back to the outreach prospects and trying to secure a few links for website 1.
