Here's the rundown of the information for those uninformed:

  • Microsoft is incorporating a faster and richer version of ChatGPT, named GTP-4, into Bing Search.
  • GPT-4 is a neural network created by OpenAI which is the next version of GPT-3.5 currently used by ChatGPT.
  • Compared to ChatGPT, GPT-4 replies are more human and detailed in output.
  • Google may have its own version of a chatbot called Apprentice Bard.
  • AI generated content can be detected by tools and search engines have methods to neutralize AI plagarized scraped types of content.
  • Search feature changes searcher behavior, which is important for driving awareness, traffic and business for clients and stakeholders.

AI generating content is near and dear to many of us here at BHW. Do you think that's going to affect us?

Affecting us or not depends on its level of implementation and to what extent will it take over the first page of the SERPs or Google.

Just like crypto, people were reluctant to believe in it, I think AI is the next big thing.

do not worry , artificial intelligence will not be penalized by anyone , rather it will be the duplicate content that will be penalized but this happens even now . AI is the future and with the right prompts and a review by the end user writers will be able to look for another job

I've been experimenting with prompting a lot, both with image generation and text. I think that even if it is penalized (which is unlikely), people who know what they're doing will always be one step ahead of the algorithms that are able to detect whether something was generated or written. Also, Google has nothing against AI content, provided that it's informative (and truthful, I guess).

I was just rewatching Terminator again. A similar story as in the movie doesn't seem so fantastic anymore, but it already seems quite real :/ It's already easy to imagine a cyborg who can understand everything

I hope that bing make serious dent on google's stranglehold on the internet searches.

In the end, we will definitely incur a loss. But I don't know when.

I think it's going to render 99% of the people here obsolete.

All I can say is … AI has changed my life. Chat GPT specifically …

I can’t go a day without it.

Soon AI will influence everyone’s decision making (whether you know it or do).

AI will take over and we will definitely take a loss in here man!

Yes and no. From making few money sites most of us here will make sites by 100s or 1000s pump it with AI content earn and exit strategy. It’ll will mess google and bing but who cares they got this on to us so

I see it as going one of three ways:

Either:

A) (in a perfect world) it wouldn't be able to render most people obsolete because it's only able to put out information that its fed, and it gets his information from content created by people - (although admittedly "zero click" searches will probably skyrocket - meaning our efforts will be used by the Big G and other search engines without us seeing a dime)

Or

B) (the darker more probable truth) it will turn into a scenario where a tiny minority will be able to dictate the information the AI learns and therefore the answers it can give, putting an end to freedom of information and the ability to seek out different perspectives or publish them and have them actually be seen to the extent that they can be today, creating one de facto info bubble that we are all trapped inside of

OR

C) (less likely than the other two but still possible) it will turn into several privatized AI providers, each fed different data sets, they will probably all charge monthly subscription fees in lieu of ads, and eventually replace search engines as we know it just as Google replaced it's predecessors, and we would basically end up paying a subscription fee for the privilege of being locked into the information bubble of our choice

Personally I'm not fond of any of those possibilities but, that's what I foresee

Yeah, I think low level information sites are utterly screwed, this is going to be the meteor that wipes them out.

My main musings are that google dosent have the ability now to deal with what could probably be a doubling of internet content in the next 6 months. Most people here probably could increase their content 10 fold, easily, and have the spare disk space to do so. Google's disks are probably at a perpetual 99% full and I doubt they will just double it. So this is going to be brutal by our own hands.

killing ad networks might be in google's playbook, reduce web content and increase the value of quality content. They might get forced to sell ad network anyway, so killing cookies on chrome and install ad blockers on privacy grounds might be scorched earth. People have to advertise on search.

Web might move to a more upload content system as well. Kind of nonsense really that they are still coming round with crawlers and dealing with rendering jquery crap. You upload your training data with a link for reference, if the info gets used, the reference link gets shown. I really see that as guaranteed.

I'm defo trying to imagine what is going to happen and get in position now.

I genuinely think the wider economic impact of this is going to be severe, like pestilence severe. Third world call centre jobs supporting europe and US will be decimated. People will be calling up banks and having 15 minute chats with AI.

When Google itself (and other indexes or directories of content) are spammed to death with non-stop AI generated dribble …

Everyone will be forced to turn to something like ChatGPT to avoid traditional search engines. And this poses a big problem …

Who will monitor or keep the owners of these AI systems in check?

For example … there are many moral and ethical questions that can be asked, where the AI needs to “choose a side”. If we ask the AI a question, it will most likely reply in seconds, saving us DIY research in future spammy Google search results.

But would the reply, align with our best interests?

An example might be “Should I learn how to shoot and carry a gun?”

For an ex-criminal who beat someone to death in the past … the AI would probably advise against learning how to shoot and carrying a firearm …

But for a police officer, or someone living in a dangerous country like South Africa - then the AI would be more likely to agree.

Once we have AIs answering all our questions and guiding us through life … the question will become … who decides these answers?

I don’t know what’s more scary …

Some Wall Street techno nerd playing with the AI algorithm’s morality code …

Or the AI becoming semi-aware and answering for itself.
