Today I decided to buy account from seller on Discord, since they announced 50% off discount on everything in their store.

I contacted them via ticket system and they answered swiftly and this is how discussion went:

Me: I want to buy X
Them: How do you want to pay
Me: PayPal
Them: Ok, this is my PayPal, pay via F&F
Me: I don't have F&F option
Them: That's fine, pay normally

So, for anyone that doesn't know this, PayPal has two payment options:
1. Goods and Services
2. Friends and Family

Difference between these two:
1. G&S has fees that seller pays and they depend of transaction amount and country. So if I send $10 to someone via G&S, they will receive approximately $8.
2. F&F transactions can't be reported easily (or at all). Therefore they're almost impossible to get refunded.

Back to the story:

I sent them money via G&S.
Few minutes later I didn't hear anything from them.
And after I checked my Discord, I saw that I can't find their server in my server list.
I figured they banned me and ran with my money...

It wasn't a lot of money, but made it me pissed off since I had to make report on PayPal, wait for them to answer, then wait for PayPal to decide if I will get my money back.
It should be long and tedious process...

While I was filling PayPal chargeback form, on the last step I clicked button "Submit" and I was greeted with this message:

They automatically processed my refund!

Now, I've been using PayPal for years.
I've made chargebacks.
I know people that made chargebacks.

But this is first time I've seen anything like this.

I don't know if this new.
I don't know if this is because he was already scamming other people in the server, so PayPal just automatically refunded everyone that made chargeback with that person.

But I was certainly pleasantly surprised :)

Damn, why would anyone accept paypal then? Noted, won't be accepting it in the future.

Yep, using PayPal or a credit card is safe.

That is why must sellers won't accept PayPal. if it is a digital good it is hard for the seller to prove they sent anything to you.
