Got hit with a Backlink penalty I think.

Hello people of BHW,

So im running two sites, writing content for both. One of them with a much faster pace but both written with 0 AI 0 plagiarism, and informative while covering the whole topics so am sure its not a thin content penalty.

The one with the much faster pace got hit by a penalty maybe 30 days after buying the first two backlinks, from sites with good DR, traffic and age.

My guess is that it got hit by a link penalty because the other site is only focusing on content, and the drop in impressions was instant. Also lost all keywords from SERP except the home page.

Anyone knows how to recover from that and how long it might take?

PS. both sites are 2 months old.

What I have seen recently is that if you are starting building links in the first few months of starting a blog, you are probably going to get hit. I saw the same with one of my sites last year in 4th quarter.
 
it can be any reason EXCEPT for backlinks. 2 backlinks don't mean shit, so you've either been penalized for publishing too much content, or you might have been sandboxed.

Out of curiosity, how many posts did you publish on the "much faster pace"'d website in one day / week?
 
Ouch, that's a rough spot to be in. If you're suspecting it's a backlink penalty, you should jump into Google Search Console and check for any manual actions. If it's there, Google will tell you what's wrong.

Now, how to fix it? Well, first, analyze those backlinks. If they're spammy, get rid of 'em. You can disavow links through GSC.

Second, slow down. You're only 2 months in. Google might be freaked out by the rapid link building. Patience is key in SEO.

Finally, consider submitting a reconsideration request to Google once you've cleaned up. Recovery time can vary, but if you're on point, it shouldn't be too long.

analyze and evaluate your link profile to identify any low-quality, spammy, or unnatural links that may have triggered the penalty or attack. You should then contact the owners of the websites that are linking to you to remove or update the links that are harming your site.
 
I don't think two links are going to make that much difference.

Given the age of your websites I'd say you are more in the new website google dance that happens to most of us.
 
getting a manual penalty from Google comes as a result of utilizing black-hat SEO tactics and not making sure a website's backlink profile is natural and adheres to Google's guidelines. Among the most common triggers for a Google link penalty are unnatural outbound and inbound links.

2 articles per day on good days, 1 per day on meh days I dont think thats too much content, roughly between 600 to 2k words.

Its an algorithmic penalty, I dont think I can submit a reconsideration request here. I just removed two of the links that I purchased, and am hoping for the best now.

Its been 2 weeks now, I heard google dance takes less time than that?

Did you manage to solve that? As am still struggling and trying to figure out.

For now I rewrote some of my content, and removed two links. Now its a waiting game as I keep on publishing with the same frequency

yeah, the content volume can't be the issue... I still think the links were not the problem, though...

Could excessive internal linking be a thing as well? I think had up to 30 links across different articles to the same article with the same anchor 30 or even 50 times. Now I reduced that by more than half and created some more anchor variations.

By excessive also I dont mean 50 links with same anchor on 1 article, they are split up, but an article is getting up to 5-6 links, sometimes 10. I cut this also down to 1-2 per article based on a silo architecture

not sure about excessive internal links, but overused anchors is definitely a problem. One of the easiest triggerable penalties that I've seen, so probably that's where your problem is. I don't think you should use more than 2-3 anchors for any links, internal or external. I mean, if you have 100s of links pointing to the same page using more than 3 identical anchors is OK, but having 30 links and all 30 of them having the same anchor you're asking for trouble. I'm pretty sure at this point that the anchors are the problem :)

oh, ok then, you did well... I did initially think that you linked to the same page with the same anchor, 30 times :D

Anyway, the anchors were the problem IMO, but you've fixed it and now just wait for google to do its thing...

haha reading this was a roller coaster. I realy hope youre right though, still weeding out some things. I removed the backlinks just in case as its a new site and I dont think their impact is that big anws, and once everything is done, and if the rankings are back up, Ill be sure to update this thread for anyone who is looking for it in the future

I know. I should have read your entire reply first and reply to it in one sentence, but I was too lazy to delete and re-write everything by the time I got to the last paragraph, so I've replied in parts that slightly contradict themselves. Just roll with it :D
