Got Clients?

Couldn't agree more. I think about it like this - if someone speaks to a client of mine and asks them if they know someone who offers [my service], what is my client going to say?

Its not enough for them just to mention my name, I want them to say: listen, you HAVE to use this company, they are fantastic at what they do, I gurantee you they'll do an amazing job.

If I want my client to say that, on my behalf, what level of service do I need to have provided them?

Offer more value to your clients so they WOM your business.

BTB would you consider over-delivering reducing the company's profit a good approach to these teachings? Over-delivering means adding more value with a high proportion to attracting more resources.

I would and I do... a few months back I gave all my clients a free month (that was real money I kicked back) as some were struggling and some just deserved some love and it cost me a fair amount of cash. An entire month of revenue.

But, in general, yes, give more than we are paid for is what makes the world go around 99% of the time.

You are a solid Dude and I'm sure that your clients love you and would really appreciate you giving more than you charge (I bet you do anyway).

My favourite thing to do is tell them "I don't think this will work" and then deliver with everything they had in mind plus more. When they ask and get an answer like "yeah the techs did some overnight work" they feel a combo ashamed or guilty but also generous that word of mouth escalates.

I do something that is free but clients enjoy it. Post delivery for 3 months I will contact them weekly and ask if they need anything, I don't get calls and what ever they want to ask they expect a call weekly from me and are actually happy about it, after 3 months I contact them monthly and upsell.

in 2008 while training for an im job, the speaker was telling how he woke up 2 am to buy diapers for his clients' newborn; I didn't reach that level yet, though I get the occasional "my phone is not working, please help" type of thing.

I know I'm talking about post sale mostly but this is a full package when you pamper them end of the day.

Over-deliver or perish.

Can you give examples of major businesses that you believe perished because they did not over deliver?

Most people seem to just want exactly what they negotiated, nothing more and nothing less.

This seems like something people say with no objective fact or research that supports it, but I am happy to be proven wrong.

At the very least, at some point you have to stop over delivering, because over delivering is just standard at that point. So where is that point?

The google results for this are hilarious.

When I go to McDonald's, I do not care about over delivering. I just want the absolute basics. If they deliver the absolute basics, they have a customer for life.

I'll give you a real live instance.

Back in 2009/2010 or so @nahid133 worked for us providing a service.

He was a bit of a pain in some aspects (my bad not his) where I would chat with him on Skype as he was traveling and he asked I post the same on Skype after he was done traveling. I do not remember the details but I do remember he was super certain to make sure we got what we paid for + a bunch more and did it with a smile.

I'm pretty sure I was not even a member on this forum when we started out business with him but I learned a ton from him serving us.

Over delivered, over-communicated, over-cared about our success.

One day I hope to be like him.

Promise extra and deliver extra large. I mostly over deliver and go the extra mile. I did not know why started doing this, been doing for the last 6 years in any business I do.

Pardon my crappy choice of words and Grammer. Iam just lazy when its not an email.

Cheers

None of us do this with our McDonald's Franchise but this is expected from you as you are not appreciative of positivity based on your posts on the forum.

Find a thread to crap on seems to be something you are really good at.

Don't you owe me a PM about a service or is it too soon?

I think it's too soon, if I understand this context correctly :) but can I PM you already? I did not want to take advantage of the kind gesture hence was waiting to PM

You can hit me up. All good.

There are a lot of crappy threads on the forum, and I try to make sure people are not being misled and that they consider alternative opinions and points of view rather than just accepting the word of people as gospel. I try to search for objective facts and encourage researching topics rather than acting based on emotion. I understand the benefits of positivity, but I also recognize the downsides of being positive about things that can unnecessarily cost people money.

If you knew that your clients would be just as satisfied if you did not over deliver, would you still think over delivering is mandatory?

If you knew that your clients would be even happier if you just told them the maximum you can deliver up front, would you still think over delivering is mandatory?

What do we base over delivering on? Client expectations or the black and white contract? Because surely client expectations will change if you constantly over deliver.
