Got a Large SEO Client!!

I made it sound like I typically charge a bit more than that without actually stating a higher amount. Besides, I probably could have gotten more, in reality. Most companies that cater to large companies like that start at 5K/month or so. And no, I didn't negotiate.

Here is a tip, one that I learned when selling RV's, you know, big motorhomes and such. It's all about creating value. So, I created a "value package", that comes with their purchase. Like with SEO, I include a fan page or something like that. Then if they start dicking me on the price, I take away the "bonus" items they get, one by one. They typically want everything. But in order to have everything, they have to pay for it. Here is an example for an RV:

"Buy any travel trailer on the lot, and get the Travel Trailer Value Package for free, worth $3950!"

"Package includes:

-Hitch and Sway bars -$1500 Value
-7.5" GPS Unit - $500 Value
-Auto-Track Satellite Dish -$1200 Value
-Outdoor, side mount BBQ $400 Value
-Foldaway table and chairs -$350 Value

So, let's say the price of the trailer is $25K

If the customer offers 23K, I would take away the hitch and sway bars, and the GPS unit. You see, if I take it away, and they buy it for 23K, I still have the EXACT same gross profit. Cool, eh? Now apply this technique to your services and products, and it doesn't matter what you sell it for, your profit stays the same.

Perfect. That is a great formula, IMO. It is how I started. And just so everyone knows, I started this specific business about 4 months ago. It helped that I had sales experience before hand, but anyone can learn how to sell. Just gotta have some cojones!

And one more thing, here is a great question to ask a client. "Bill, I have a question for you. We are an extremely busy company and we only work with a few clients at a time to ensure all of our clients have equal access to us, and to ensure great service. Tell me, why should we do SEO (or whatever) work for your company, and not your competitor down the street?"

^^^REMEMBER THIS! This is a great question, as it makes THEM sell YOU on why you should work with THEM. Sales is easy, it is a mindset and nothing else. Oh yeah, and when you get rejected? Remember this: "Some will, Some won't, Who cares, Who's next?

Very well written reply! I like it.. I'm pretty good with sales myself (just not cold calling) and I say to all my friends when they've interviews for shops etc your not selling the product your selling the dream, the lifestyle etc.... its so important.

Nice way to promote... really like facebook fan pages, and don't EVER give them admin access to the page...

Perfect timing. Im doing my own seo service website for my local area (and outside to). Great news for you man! This gives me hope that I can land 1 big contract or hell several small ones for all that matters.

One question though with this sum of money, did you ever meet in person? After they contacted you did you speak on the phone? Was he already knowledgeable about SEO and what has to be done?

Exactly, sell the sizzle, not the steak. Ferrari - sell the prestige, the pussy. Not the car. Exactly like money making info products: Sell the dream, not the information. Oh, and I know, no admin access. Except I don't manage them if I am giving them away, lol. Management is an upsell

Yes, I did meet him in person, along with their sorry excuse for a webmaster. He (webmaster) didn't seem to like me too much. Funny thing was, the President of the company couldn't care less what the poor guy had to say about everything. LOL!

He kind of knew what SEO was, just that no one ever did a good job selling him. Here is the thing guys, you only have to be a little bit better than the next/previous SEO guy to get the sale.

Thanks! Yup, I am thinking this will turn into something very big. If so, I will have to outsource alot of the work. Right now I do most of it. But I DO use a few select fiverr gigs that are extremely effective.

Clients definately help alot when your trying to make cash online - so congrats on a larger one.

Congratulations and good luck man! I hope you do real good! You know how these big clients are. Mess up and they're never going to hire you ever again. They'll also tell their friends not to hire you. But do a great job and you're on your way to millions as they'll refer you to their friends!

Congrats mate... very inspiring thread ... for a noob like me to read that you can make it in this game , I'm not complaining or asking to be spoonfed just wanted to say that im a noob and I read a lot around the forum ... and i feel probably like most of the noobs... that are real noobs because there are noobs that learn and try and fail and noobs that try one method either they fail either they make 2$ and think its all a scam... but I don't really care what do other people think , most money i've made in my life out of internet is 170$ with a CPA network... and im prodoud of it ... so i know that if i learn , read and learn some more... i will get to something valuable This thread is giving me hope for another sleepless night lworking and upgrading myself towards a better future.
