Google Update today? Keywords bouncing around

For me everything started on 13th. I had a 4 months old website, very few and unsignficant backlinks were added. From November I started to add around 1000 pages/month. Everything went up until 13th January when from 1000 Google visitors/day I went down to a few dozens. I suspected a google dance, but it could be an update as well. Though I can't imagine why I should be banned.

a) My website is an EMD
b) It has almost no backlinks
c) Content is unique and absolutely correct.

I've started a backlink campaign and I'll see if it comes back.

just sit tight and let this blow over
i had 3 client campaigns effected by this (2 in progress and 1 over a year old and stable)
and my own site was effected as well
all in different niches
the 1 over a year old i did nothing to try to recover (he hasn't paid me in a year)
he lost #1 position (completely removed from serps for all terms except his business name) across 20 keywords on the 17th
he's back at #1 on 7 of them today

my site's ranking is recovering slowly but surely, one kw at a time
one of the campaigns is not showing recovery
the other....it's back in most places with a slight drop in strength in a few of them

Yeah it all seems okay I have only really done whitehat and I lost a lot of rankings either they dropped off or dropped at least -20 positions but all seem back today if not higher. So my advice would be just sit tight and see what happens.

i still have some of my campaigns that are still borked
all three campaigns used the company name as a link anchor extensively
however, the one that recovered had a company name that was essentially a keyword
the other two, still suffer, and i wondered why, (using company name as an anchor is not standard practice for me, other campaigns did not get touched, and these three were the only ones that used company names as anchors)
then i noticed this
http://www.seroundtable.com/google-jan-17-brands-16261.html
which made me think it might be the company name as an anchor causing the issues
anyone able to confirm similar data?
i really don't want to go through and inspect and remove hundreds of articles without being 100% sure that it will fix it

What I can see the last weeks is pretty strange and I am absolutely clueless.
In a nutshell it is like -150 drop a few days, sometimes hours a +130 rise, later again -140 drop.
The funny thing is this happes also for keywords I never built links to. I track also related terms, where I think they could bring buying traffic, but am unsure that it would be effective to push them. One of this keywords has been on #19 and I really never built a single link on it. It dropped down to #240 and then increased about 30 position to about #200, where it stays now.
This is the most strange update I've ever seen here. Strange. And now, I don't believe that this relies only on brand anchored backlinks.

Neither of my main sites have dropped nor climbed in the rankings. Maybe it doesn't effect adult websites :detective

I have experienced the same thing on a 2-year old authority domain with an 80 % drop in visitors overall. Kept rankings for some keywords that was never even build links to. Lost rankings on a lot of well-optimized pages with a diverse backlinking profile. Not seen any recovery on any of the affected keywords yet.
