Google Update today? Keywords bouncing around

I can confirm movements on the 16th for one of my UK sites, reason probably being backlink profile. Further news on this will be interesting as analysts report.

Rankings for around 10 of my clients stayed the same while 15 others went either through the freaking roof, jumping multiple pages forward, or completely getting kicked off, whilst all having a very similar linking strategy, so I am not convinced it has anything to do with linking strategies at this time.

The locely site is down, with 5 keywords ; 2 keywords , from page 1, #1 gone on 11 page. :( Fiverr backlinks shit !

My .net domain is pretty much up on almost every keyword. Haven't done any serious backlinking on the site, so I wonder if it is backlinking related. Some unranked keywords are now in the top 100.

My rankings are only going up Maybe you are having problems with on-site SEO.Maybe you bought some bad links and they are getting realized I have only been getting more rankings.

This has turned out to be a great thread (Even though I got Neg'd for saying that my sites using SAPE are doing fine, lol).

ha let me guess, leena neg repped you right? lol hes been going round neg repping everyone saying anything remotely good about sape, see http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/507237-four-link-building-strategies-avoid.html#post4979430 report him to a mod man and point them to this post as this is a few times now he has been abusing the rep system.

Organic Search? Yeah, keep chasing that carrot boys and girls.

Is anyone else seeing keyword stuffed pages dominate?

This update seems eerily familiar.. Last time, my sites bounced around for a few weeks. THEN, magically, they recovered and the serps seemed to return back to normal.

The funny thing about this and the last update was shitty seo seemed to take the center stage. Super heavy keyword stuffed pages with %100 keyword density were floating around the top with some other high PR sites that had heavily spammed titles, etc.

THEN, mysteriously... a week or two later, the serps returned back to normal. Seems like google realized how badly they fucked up and reverted back to a less drastic step.

It seems like G is treating this like an infection on an arm. But instead of treating it with anti biotics, they're just amputating the entire arm... lol.

I'm seeing a ton of keyword stuffed sites bounce around in my niche. Shit that deserves to be on the 100th page, but it seems like the PR of the domain is what's holding it high and mighty. Guess they're assuming that a combination of link diversity and PR are what matter now, not the quality of the site or the quality of the links.

Focus on LSI diversity and naked/generic anchors and you'll probably recover quicker. Safest bet considering you can't effect the PR of your site if you're not 301'ing a real PR 5 or something.

Fuck this is ridiculous. Good job G. You set out to kill an infection, and you keep chopping off body parts in your drastic and feverish attempts to isolate what you see as a problem.

Round 2 of the 'test out the poison on the live guinea pigs'

I seeing changes for my French sites as well. Look like another new update.

Here is some data. This ranking chart is for 2 inner pages of the same site.

penguin.png

Both pages have more than strict onsite SEO and have almost the same onsite metrics. Since only one of the two pages were affected, it's safe to say that is not a Panda update, that would be sitewide.

The difference between the 2 pages: my link building.

Both keywords received an Senuke blast. The obvious difference seems to be the anchor diversity. The one that lost rankings had about 10 anchor variations only. The other one was like this:

{{{Sitename.com|Site name|Sitename} |}{Main keyword|Mainkeyword|main Keyword}|{generic anchor}|{url|URL|Ur.L}}

I had a hard time believing that Penguin is about anchor diversity but this has proven it to me. Even if G looks at other things, playing safe with anchor text may help avoiding a penalty.

Is that related to link velocity? one of my competitor in same niche its overtake #1 in 2-3weeks time from a newly created domain, that site got de-index on 16th..

P.S. that site got use cloaking method

@navimeister I have very similar charts. I seems like once I am getting in the top 3 for my keywords, and finally making some money, they throw another update at me/us, sigh.

It might be the penguin again. Is anybody having better results without using exact keywords or exact keywords less than 5% or something?
Maybe we can exchange our keyword, naked urls ratios to solve this sh...?

Ok, so for me personally - I have worked out what has happened with regards to my rankings. This may not be correct for you - but this is, from what I can see, has happened to my sites, and it is simple.

I do SEO for my own site and I have 4 clients who I do SEO for. Thankfully the sites I do SEO for did not get affected - only my site did. And not only that, for my site not all of my keywords got affected - only some.

All sites have solid on site SEO, all sites have (fairly) solid anchor text diversity and all sites have solid link diversity. The ONLY difference between my 4 clients sites and my site, and the only difference between the keywords that got affected and the keywords that did not was simply; the quality of the backlinks.

For my site before I got into the SEO game I used a super shit SEO company in India. They gave me a lot of unrelated spammy backlinks. For example, for the keywords that were in the top 10 and are now not anywhere to be seen I had lots of blog comments from angry birds forums! Lol.

It is almost like G has seen my site have lots of shit backlinks for one specific keyword, then canceled all the juice going to my site for that keyword, so now for that keyword only I am not ranking.

My backlinking strategy for the sites that have not been affected is simply creating lots of Web2.0's with good content and keeping them alive by posting in them once a month, video posts, PDF shares and powerpoint video shares. I then backlink them with niche forum blog posts, SeNuke, Rss feed and then ping and tribepro. So, this is what I am going to continue to do.

My lesson learnt - do it yourself - don't trust anyone to do quality backlinking for you!

Also food for thought, in a way Google is winning, the new 'blackhat' is flooding the web with really good quality content. Surely now, everyone is a winner.

I think this is Penguin update (but what that means.....). Results on 1st page contain much more local results since 17.1.
Example "anchor diversity" my competitor website:
website: blue-widgets
Anchor text diversity: 99 percent "blue widgets"
position: 1st page 4th position for keyword: "blue widgets"

It's quite hard to to see what's going on for my websites. I'm totally upset as always...

I have read this on another forum: "If you suddenly add hundreds of pages to your site you will usually experience a drop in PR for many of your pages and you will probably increase the number of pages which are (what used to be called) "supplemental" (ie: indexed but not listed).... in order to reverse the situation you will require additional incoming links."

I have added 50+ pages myself and have seen a lot op pages drop recently. Could this be one of the reasons?

No can't be because I always add at least 200 pages.

Yes I'm noticing this as well. I think there doing some additional updates but am not positive. Probably another EMD or low quality site related update again which I think we're all beginning to get used to.
