track better keywords? lol was waiting for you to pop your head in... Care to share some charts or pics or anything at all to back up your data or findings other than talk? I mean in a pool of 2k kws I'm sure I've got a pretty good idea of whats going on
Tracking your own sites is useless for mapping these sorts of things, none of my sites changed significantly enough (most are new, and SEO'd heavily a short time ago, pump/dumps) but suffice to say #3 is now #197, #4 is #10, #8 is #18, #11 is #479 in a niche. Niche is very very competitive as top sites make 4-5kUSD/day
I won't be posting up my data on this, however, as I see no reason to. I posted data on the last Penguin update in Nov in an attempt to dispel the myth that "only sites Google doesn't like are hit". It's obvious to everyone who tracks and watches keywords, and whose been around for awhile, knows what has happened. Standard Penguin behavior. You get shakey results for 4-5 days beforehand, dumps a ton of sites (seemingly a whole lot of SAPE paid sites... two in particular had purchased at least 5k USD worth) and then some of the sites will slowly come back up over the next 1-2 weeks. You will also see sites that you think "survived" drop heavily over the next 2-3 weeks as Penguin is adjusted and sets in.
Instead of tracking *keywords* I track 100s of sites per keyword. Tracking keywords is useless, none of my sites moved (yet) to any appreciable degree. It's just google tweaking around with Penguin using data they've collected most likely. You can tell because of the freakish changes to the ranking on some sites leading up to the change... happens every time.
Google will probably post something within the next week... like always.

Yeah I've no doubt somethings going down theres no smoke without fire, although I've seen nothing major as of yet in fact quite the opposite over the last few days but time will tell. And yeah no doubt cutts will be mouthing on twitter soon enough if there has been an update. It would be good if you could share that data I'm sure everyone would be very interested in seeing it....

Maybe there has indeed been some sort of update, time will tell but at the minute I'm seeing nothing out of the ordinary.
Did you check any of your rankings manually? The reason we first noticed all the huge changes in rankings was because clients were complaining that their ranking reports were inaccurate. Upon investigating this I found that using a US proxy to access Google.co.uk was providing different results to a UK IP, because of the data centers. The ranking report software we're using is using US proxies (Serpbook was also giving inaccurate data). It looks like the data centers have caught up today though because was just ran another ranking report update and they're now reflecting the true, negative rankings.

Since a lot of you are mentioning uk and european results being affected more than .com search results, maybe it's got something to do with the recent ruling by the e.u telling google it has to change its search results in europe?
Yeah this was a big one.... still is... since there is no way that these results will last for long. I've seen a lot of thin EMDs rise from the grave again and other authority sites get sent down. I'm seeing a lot of the stable sites that we own go in two directions... many keywords way down and a few way up. Looking at it from a backlinking perspective... doesn't make much sense yet.
Another interesting thing is that for the ones that went down.... if they have a lot of inner pages... traffic is up on those due to long keys.
Also meetup.com is dominating some local searches all of a sudden.
Let's see how this plays out.

This has turned out to be a great thread (Even though I got Neg'd for saying that my sites using SAPE are doing fine, lol). I only use SAPE for indexing and additional juice purposes, no more than 10% of a link profile. maybe that clears some things up, maybe I'll get neg'd for saying that too
You really need a global view, hundreds of URLs in a niche to see what is really going on. I will agree with Abtroose, my Serpfox rankings didn't catch up until last night on some URLs. I think I'm going to chill for a week or two and see what is causing this, although I didn't take a huge hit anywhere, I did see some great rankings #1-#2 bounce to #2-#3 for medium competitive phrases.

I think I know at least one these niches and I have to agree, the owner must be pretty annoyed, however he still has a good few sites in the top 10s for different terms.
But the site that was in 3/4 is almost gone, and the one he had in 13/14 is gone too.

2 days ago my money site dropped from the first page results to pages 2 & 3 for 2 good search terms that it has been on the first page for for years. If it doesn't come back soon I'll be on the street because my regular job did the same thing a few months ago, and this site has been the only thing getting me by - just barely. In fact I just had to sign up for food stamps for the first time in my life - oddly on the very same day this happened. Yet there are 3 spam sites that have a single page optimized for these same terms, which all just landed on page 1 last month, and they are doing just fine. I have not been doing black hat stuff for my site, but my competition apparently has. One of the sites is not even relevant to my niche, but its single page which is has maintained its new rank at spot #3 for the past month or so. It seems like every time there's an algorithm update, little spam sites with nothing to offer jump in front of my large, well-developed, niche-relevant site. But this time my site fell off.
