Google update just now? 10/4?

I've been building links with completely new and generic anchors. It looks like it's helping thus far. I've only seen increases since the update.

Sorry to quote you again, but I've just seen your other post on BHW. My slapped sites have NO links in GWMT.....none. Maybe they've just all been disavowed by Google? There was thousands previously. No messages in WMT either. Strange. Only homepage rankings are gone, still...

Really? People say it isn't working at all...how exactly are you using it?

If you disavow links then you're just flagging to Google what links YOU think are spam. That means that all of other sites that use the same domain will be penalised, hence why if you've been using Senuke XCR/BHW services/other services, that they will affect our sites. If you use GSA on the other hand, and be clever about how you set it up, then you get links where no other spammers are getting links from....

Just to mention I droped from #4 position on 7th page and my Wordpress T2 site is now ranking better than money site and i'm just questioning myself is there somebody who knows, how much time should it take to disavow tool to take effect, i disavowed some links from Chinese or Korean sites ??

But my site lost rankings for 11 days, rankings came back for a day, then they fell
again, and now they're all just dancing like crazy. The strangest thing though, my
most competitive keyword has stayed #1, a couple of others have stayed in
positions 5 and 7, but the rest are dancing.

All the links that *I* did were done manually. I did lots of blogger posts, wordpress
and bought some .coms, filled them out with content and got links from those as
well. They are all contextual links.

However, I DID outsource SEO on the site after a while, and as far as I know the
guy I use is one of the best out there. He ranks sites fast with his own network,
hides all his links, and my oldest site with him has been ranking for 2 years and
survived all the updates.

Whats also odd, the site that got hit was the only site that I personally build links
to. But at the same time I never spammed the site so I have no idea why its
dancing.

What exactly is a spammy link? And this may be a stupid question but I have to ask.
There are SEO services out there who own HUGE private networks. And some of
these guys block their links from ahrefs, majestic and other SEO tools. In order to
hide their links from competitors. But naturally you can't hide a link from Google.

I am curious if Google can tell when a backlink is being hidden in this manner?

And if they can, wouldn't that give them a great reason to penalize sites those links
point to?

The reason I ask is because I've only known about this technique for like 6 months.
So I'm wondering if this update may be targeting "hidden links" from private networks.

I just can't imagine than any of my own links got the site in trouble, at the same time,
I don't want to blame my provider. My sites have survived all other updates, so I'm
puzzled how or why this one got me.

I realize Google is volatile by nature, but it does have an aglo. So my simplest question
would be, does ANYONE know wtf this algo was targeting? How long does it take
before there is some type of mass consensus?

If he is hidding the backlinks using robots.txt (and not server side methods), it's an obvious footprint but there are many legitimate sites that are using this method in order to not waste their server resources on spiders. So I don't think that this is the reason of the penalty.

i also having the same issue, keywords' jumping like ccrazy.

All the small drops I had experienced are recovered, most are ranking even better now.

The one site that got a major hit is almost recovered however 2 keywords are trailing with around -10 lost in position, pretty confident I will get them recovered within a month or 2.

I diversified my anchors a lot, I blasted most of the sites with around 500 new links with almost the same amount of anchors, many of them general anchors but the rest is based upon LSI keywords for the keywords I am targetting.

I'll be keeping a close eye on my competitors' and my rankings over the next week. Not a single competitor of mine has changed rank. No change in Yahoo, Social, or Web 2.0 rankings in the SERPs either. There are still websites from all 3 in the top 20.

That is hummingbird from Sept 2013. It is now Feb 2014 and its not hummingbird.

definitely an update though lol. too bad, will have to play some trick again on this one.

Matt Cutts seems try to bring down those low quality links that getting from guest blogging. he said that "I?m calling it: if you?re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it?s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you?re doing a lot of guest blogging then you?re hanging out with really bad company."

That is an asinine statement and I'm calling bullshit on MC. If I'm in the medical niche and get the opportunity to guest blog on WebMD, is that bad company? Dumbass. What the fuck did they make the authorship system for if you are not supposed to post on other sites to build authority in your niche and gain exposure by posting on other relevant sites, and have them associated with you as an author? An author of only one personal blog is not an authoritative figure - you HAVE to branch out and get on other sites, not even for an SEO benefit or backlinking but just to be known in your market...fuck this guy. When you hang with Matt Cutts you're hanging out with really bad company.

K glad to see I'm the only one.. I've got about 5 websites dancing right now nonstop.. one of my websites has dropped for 16 keywords on the 1st page, now to like 3rd-4th page for just 5 keywords, and the rest all not in the top 100 (not appearing at all).. I really hope this is temporary..
