Google update just now? 10/4?

possibly the worst thing i've ever heard. if you wanna pay to rank, there is adwords for you. also, most blackhat spammers will gladly pay $500 a year if it will rank them in the top results. Most spammers will make this kind of money in 1 day.

It's not a bad idea, it's a great idea. I'm not talking about ranking in the top results, I'm talking about your website showing up in Google full stop.

The idiots who churn out dozens and dozens of affiliate sites that make no money won't pay to use adwords, they'll try and get around the algorithm instead by spamming anything and everything to death.

If they have to pay a fee upfront to even get their site into the serps before trying to find a way to rank, then they aren't even going to leave the drawing board, they'll not be producing zillions of crap sites and Googles major headache is a long way to being solved.

Also most blackhatters do NOT make $500 per day, probably 99.9% of people who try and earn money by being an affiliate or using adsense or selling clickbank crap will not even make $500 per site per year.

Haha, you have no idea what you're talking about :)

Just to keep people on the loop 1 of my sites got from top 3 position to position 40 something, personally from what I been reading on this thread my hit is not that bad as other members on this forum, also I got other website with EMD domain from 2001 and WordPress using the plugin >> "All in One SEO Pack 2.0.2" and it did not hit at all is either the same position on top 3 positions on most relevant keywords or when a bit up, but, I did not see any of the keywords go down not even for one position.

So, personally I think that the WordPress Theory is kind of BS but, maybe the issue with that is the Yoast SEO plugin, I personally never like that plugin always used the All in one SEO Pack.

Also, from my point of view and from what I am seeing from the effect that this update took to my competitors, I might had found a pattern maybe I am completely wrong but, you guys let me know what you think about it, the pattern I found that the only big competitors that did not got hit are either the ones that have their domain link in DMOZ or Yahoo Directory, all other competitors that I know that they do not have links there got hit and the ones on second page went up, so basically hit all results on first page that had no backlinks on those directories if your website did not rank on first page update should not hit you as hard.

Maybe my theory is completely wrong but, I was always told that Google gives DMOZ and Yahoo Directory a lot of revelance and even uses results on DMOZ and for what I have seen at least on my niche this theory applies.

Please correct me if I am wrong or let me know what you guys think, I am open for debate :D

Hope it helps!!

Also one question, does anybody knows when update is supposed to be finish? Thanks!

I do quite a lot of sites and the trend I have seen is the sites I do which have not had past link spam are fine but the sites that have had link spam before I started work for them have been hit. Meaning the small change they have done with the latest penguin has just got better at detecting it.

I am finding it hard to put down conspiracy because I have a lot of sites on my serpbook and the pattern has been the same. If you have been doing the link building the right away or have been doing good linkbuilding that looks natural and have great content on your site then you are gaining from this update.

Most sites I have seen go up I have not used a single web2.0 or tier system btw.

I have a large niche site that has doubled in traffic since this update.

Can you please share what types of good links you were building for the sites that doing well after this update?

lol this forum has the worst theories ever. Best popcorn thread I've seen in a while.

I really don't understand why you then read this? It's page 12 man..
Please be kind and share those great theories you have found in other places? Just to compare with our "funny" theories.
Otherwise your post is simply useless..

Some of my sites just vanished off Bing as well........Hahahahahahaha........I'm taking a beating this week.

I had one site that was hit hard. Seems to be targeting weak content. My site in question had a lot of re-hashed weak content and spun garbage on the main page. Nothing of too much value.

Yeah i bet he LOVES to read how everyone are saying FUCK YOU Matt for destroying our site... Its not like only the black hat sites were affected.. A lot of white hat authority sites were also, so really KUDOS to you Matt.

And James, if you stick your tongue a little further in Matt`s ass you might get an inside information there...

I'd actually argue that this update *mostly* affected 'white' hat sites.

I think it is still waiting time.

So far I have observed following things:

1. really high authority sites show up multiple times on page 1 without huge relevance to the question asked - deep pages.

2. some very high competition keywords (think payday loans/weight loss) either show wiki + some crappy sites (think blast from the 90's with 1 link) or see above + tons of spammed youtube vids (goes back to authority of youtube that get's passed or is in in the whitelist?).

Pretty much ugly picture so far and that means that it is still an ongoing process IMHO. One of the sites I manage now sits on spot #2, moved up from page 3 for really competitive keyword and that site is UGLY - think 4 pages with maybe 200-300 words of unique content, no social signals and pretty much crappy links though I never was too heavy on keywords as anchors, just used domain name in most cases (rely on the on-page stuff). So this bird is now stuck to #2... while all the nice pro looking sites are down the drain. I'm not complaining, just trying to be objective and observe. Makes little sense.

I think smart thing to do NOW is wait. If links got devalued (I have suspicions that part of this update has something to do with that, especially older links) then rank drops boils down to the link loss.

If you start messing with your link building or on-page stuff NOW you won't be able to tell which did what, so just ride it out for now. Forget about disavow/etc, don't play into the G's hand.

I see a lot of people are wanting to be in wait and see mode. I am going to disavowed all links that don't have page authority above 1. I'm doing this because everyone on here is advising against this and usually going against what most people say on here yields the best results. I will let everyone know what the results are. Both main domain and one inner page was hit. Used a service from here as well as Senuke manual spun articles spun at word, sentence, and paragraph level. Competition had used senuke with highly spun and fiverr blog comments but didnt get hit by update. Going to see what the disavowed does and share the results

So basically everyone on here doesn't know what they're doing...besides you? Lol. Obviously cleaning up your backlink profile is a good thing, and I think most of the experienced SEO's here were doing that before this last update. I agree you shouldn't follow everything said on any forum, but I wouldn't say doing the opposite of everything a pretty well diversified and quite experienced community does is the best way to go most of the time.

I agree. Doing the opposite doesn't mean it's going to work, but from my experience, doing things a bit differently from what the "experienced" community does actually works wonders.

My linkbuilding leaves behind huge footprints! But, they are not the same type of footprints that google is going after or the same footprint that majority of SEO's have. After all, google's algorithm is generally targeted at mainstream methods.

I partially agree with his statement "I'm doing this because everyone on here is advising against this and usually going against what most people say on here yields the best results.", because personally, I don't like to follow the herd off the cliff either, but sometimes its good to move together with them.

Lol there is no update going on... google is playing with your heads. There wasnt an update or algorithm change. They simply hit the shuffle button and wait and see what people are saying about it. Putting sites on top with spam links so everyone things lets spam, then comes the real update and all spam using same methods will hit the floor. :) sooo FAKE it real good..... design your own plan and dont follow the same guides as everyone else, that is most likely the biggest footprint ever! Everyone building web2.0 then social signals, or whatever the trend is.

Now everyone's saying not to do what everyone's saying. So if we do what you say, which is not do what everyone's saying, then I'm doing what you're telling me not to, but doing what you say to do. Anyone mind fucked yet? >D

They think I will go against the trend and go against what everyone is saying... but I'm actually going to double bluff Google and go with the trend. ;-)

Honestly, the amount of crap that gets posted on this site is unbelievable...
