When connecting to Google.com.au via Hide-my-ass, and via any US based node on my secure VPN, I'm seeing a very different set of search results to those that are visible in Australia. That to me indicates that it is indeed an update, and it's still rolling out.

Interestingly (but not surprisingly) mozcast isn't really detecting this - however, Algoroo is showing pretty high volatility.

Yep, same here. Checking keywords manually and not at all accurate from the tracking programs. Also I've always found MozCast to be quite useless.
 
Google has claimed this is part of the ongoing rollout of Penguin 3.0... as far as I'm concerned, it looks more like a reversal, in part, at least, of the Penguin 3.0 update!
 
UPDATE: I had all my keywords shot up on the 26th after extensive clean up and no link building for the past two years.

Just checked few hours lost all my ranking again. Results look like prior to the 26th. It's still rolling.
 
Another site of mine that I cleaned up links on recovered, maybe the databases are getting in sync? Or maybe the final push of Penguin?

Same here - all serp gains seem to have normalized back to where they were prior the start of this shakeup...
 
Few sites are back, especially a white hat one that was also penalized for whatever reason. However, the top keywords are stuck in page #2 and page #3, while in page #1 are just the keywords with the lower search volume. I will be happy if Google starts to ignore what they consider as "bad" links than penalizing us. This way they will deal with negative SEO and all the frustrations even from legit businesses. Btw the update is happening on the same date EU released a document asking Google to be more transparent about their algorithm and how they rank sites, along with an anti-monopoly advice asking them to separate their search engine from their other businesses and stop utilizing so much space for their services vs the organic results. Sadly it is still not a requirement but just an advice. I hope EU to become more harder on them so they could at least give us a chance. Lately there were many cases where Google is taking 100% above the fold space with their stuff.

one of my sites that disappeared after penguin 3.0, today is #4. i did no action, i was starting building new the same website...

same here.
Tony, remember how i was bitching about why my site is #1 when I check from home, but #4 when I check from local coffee shops? well, now it's #4 again everywhere. it seems like they were experimenting with a new algorithm only for certain IPs and they didnt like the result so decided to revert back to the original.
 
Well, for me I had a site which went from 6-8 to #3 on 29 december (did PBN links from my PBN that I've built).

On 30 december it went to 2 !!! Made $ 103 from it that day.

On 1 december? Guess what ... dancing like hell, made $ 0 , LOL! It was on 2, sometimes on 3, sometimes out of top 100.

Yesterday? The same.

Today...I guess it danced for like 80% of this day, but seems like now it's on 3...I'll update here what will happens next guys. :)
 
Whatever this update did ..... I've seen improvements in SERPS like I've never seen before.

Considering the beat down I've been taking these past few months, this was a great update for me. 7/10 of my primary keywords all jumped from pages 6-10 to page 1. I'm just hoping it lasts.
 
I got hit by the update in October and yes I did have some pretty bad links. I got a link detox report done, submitted a disavow, merged a few "legal" pages and information pages to save link juice, wrote new content, and got new PBN links.

This 3.1 update last week sent some of my keywords back to their original positions, and then suddenly dropped back down yesterday. Not too happy with how Google is playing with the serps and jerking us around.

UPDATE: My site is out of top 120, wtf is going on? F***ing google.
 
Seems like all website which were up for last few days are gone. ahh damn you Google!
