Interesting http://www.t3.com/news/google-stops-promoting-google-results-in-search

Google+ results will no longer be prioritised in Google search results at the expense of other social media. That's according to the Big G's Amit Singhal, who has said the search giant has found "a better place" for tidbits thrown up by its social network.Singhal's comments come after Facebook, Twitter and MySpace all complained that Google was unfairly pushing content from Google+ in its search results via its ‘Search Plus Your World' function, therefore breaching strict anti-trust guidelines. European competition regulators are already investigating Mountain View over the alleged rule-breaking.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Singhal said of the decision to row back on the promotion of Google+ results, "I think it's a learning process - even for us. We experiment, we learn, we improve - that's what Google does."

Facebook, Twitter and MySpace got together earlier this year to release a ‘Don't Be Evil' Firefox plugin to show users exactly how results would look if Google+ pages were not given priority.

The furore led to a spat between Twitter and Google at the start of 2012 The latter suggested that the former had lost its right to complain about the matter when it decided not to renew a deal which showed realtime Twitter results as part of Google searches.

Hopefully they keep the emphasis off their Google products in the SERPs.

Actually, I take that back. I like being able to rank YouTube videos in like 24 hours. :D

Google saw the handwriting on the wall. Fix it or get your ass spanked.

I just noticed on a bunch of my keywords with this week's Google update that Amazon dropped out of first spots which they've dominated since the Penguin update. I think Google is getting plenty of legal notices about their abuses and reversing some of there algo changes. Pure speculation, but I know Amazon didn't change enough to fall from #1 that they've enjoyed for over 2 months to now be at #5 in the last week on dozens of keywords I compete for.

I have to agree with your speculation. Been seeing a lot of YT vids starting to lose their hold in Google along with a lot of my Panda and Penguinized sites that I gave up on starting to regain.

Does anyone know the details of the twitter/google deal that included real time tweets in the search results? I always wondered why that stopped.

The beginning of the end for the piece of shit platform was when it launched :D
Why did people think it would be any more successful than knol and wave and.... all those other great successful google services?

Oh I like how they try and brush off claims of abusing their monopoly over search with phrases like "it's a learning curve" - really, is it a learning curve, or is it the fact that the EU is already investigating them and discussing sanctions? The whole way G+ has been forced on users and search was such obvious abuse of their position it can't have helped their case!

Didn't Twitter and Google have a legal battle shortly after? I don't know if I'm remembering correctly though. I thought the idea of the real time tweets was perfect though. Would have been great for online PR and internet marketing alike.

I can't wait for the EU to finally lay the smackdown. It is taking forever. Also the 22.5 million link in above is about something totally different. Finally 22.5 mil is nothing. It is like when american banks do something shady and get fined 50 mil. That is like 1 dollar to the company

I must have missed news of the legal battle. You're right about the real time tweets. I really loved that.

I'm happy about that because I won't have to bother outranking the stupid crappy videos that sit at #1 and #2 for one of my sites. :)

Edit: The two videos that sit above my site are roughly one minute long and one of them was only uploaded a month ago. Both of them are bullshit.

That is a good news. I always wished google dead. Good riddance.

I used to be a fan of G but they need a kick in the axx as they are currently running wild like IBM did then Microsoft. They think they can get away with anything they'll learn that consumers eventually vote with their feet!

That would have been ridiculous anyway if they were wrongly promoting their own service.
