My website got hit by the October spam update and crashed every keyword I was ranking for. What is the best way to recover from this? would More backlinks like guests posts fix this?

leave it as it is and check back in a few weeks, it will be back on top

after 30 days only 2 keywords came back with around 90+ ranking...

I think your right though. They will bounce back. Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

More guest posts...would that work?

  • Completely remove thin and bad content which includes spun, translated, low-quality AI-generated articles, etc. You can use the "Google Removal Tool" to remove indexed URLs from Google.
  • Set 301 redirects for 404 pages - missing articles. I usually redirect to the root or related articles. You can use 404 redirect PHP code or/and "WordpressPress plugin - 301 Redirects – Easy Redirect Manager". It's free and does the job very well!
  • Update and improve important articles with at least 3000 words / per article. Do not forget to add some additional things such as tables, images, infographics, videos, quotes, etc. Make a picture of your dog/cat/pig and put it on the blog. I believe that the unique pictures are a good signal to Google. Rewrite and improve the meta title as well. You can use "(Updated 2022)" at the end.
  • Publish new content regularly. 1 article per week for the first month will be enough in most cases. Increase the number of articles over time. From my experience, around 1500 words per article is just enough. After a while, you can put together a longer article with 3000 - 5000 words.
  • Disavow bad quality, spammy, domain aggregators links. In Google Search Console, click on “Search Traffic”, select “Links to Your Site", and download the list. Do some research and remove bad, spammy, and unrelated links by disavowing them. "Spam Score" by Moz, Ahrefs, and Semrush are great tools to analyse backlinks.
  • Share each blog post on your social media profile/page/wall, whatever you have. From my experience sharing posts on SM may help to index quite faster.
  • Make sure that your WordPress template and hosting are fast enough. Otherwise, consider investing some money in fast theme and hosting.

Thank you so much! I am confident that adding more content and using social media will fix the problem!

I would not even bother with the domain that got hit and will throw it away.
1 buy a domain
2 copy over the website to new domain
3 unpublished all articles
4 deindex all posts from the site that got hit
5 after deindex completes delete the site
6 add low competition key word info content + slowly publish unpublished content with new url, title and creation date.

It's more likely that someone has outranked you and chances are they have monitored the page to get all your SEO data, then optimize their page to outrank you.

Open the page that outranked you and see what they have done better, you should do the same, or at least better than them.

Pay attention to keywords and backlinks since they're the most important factors when it comes to ranking.

I agree with everything this dude said except for this exerpt.

Moz Metrics are all complete crap... There are as many pure spam sites at the lowest possible 1% spam score as there are solid reputable sites that somehow show 60% spam... And DA is a laughable metric...

Its been my experience (mainly specializing in adult seo for the last 9 years) that:

A) Don't get overzealous with the disavow tool, especially if you have even a hint of a worried, or especially panicked or impatient, mindset at the moment - because:

1) You are very likely to overprune and get rid of links that are helping you

2) Google ignores (most) crappy links anyway and simply doesn't factor them into the equation (John Mu claims they ignore "all" crappy links but im convinced "most" is a more accurate statement)

B) If you didnt get any warnings / alerts in GSC, it would take a lot more investigation to rule out other causes, such as ensuring that perhaps your competition didnt just step up their game and leave you in the dust & no penalty was issued

C) *Especially true if you are in a less easy to relate niche* - dont miss out on good solid links by being entirely too granular in your assessment of relevancy. If you can think of a realistic scenrio or reason for there to be an intersect, that is ebough to Establish relevancy.

E.g. - some ridiculous f*cks will try to tell you that a blog about dogs and a blog about cats are not relevant - Bull.... Many people own both, they overlap stupidly well..

A Step further:

a city park would be relevant, as a nice place to take your dog.

That coffee shop that happens to be dog friendly - highly relevant...

The hardware/diy site where you can purchase the materials or plans to build a doghouse? 100% Relevant. ..

That craft shop or ecomm site where you can buy fabric to make outfits for the dog - relevant...

The health food store that carries a premium brand of dog food- relevant.

Any site about companionship /self help/depression, family related events, active lifestyles, healing, differently abled people, etc etc etc??? Bet your ass it's relevant..

Dare to think outside the box
