Google Site Map Not Working on My WordPress Website

I just start a new site and install Google Site map plugin and do all settings,
but on 2 websites it is not working,
it has indexed only 4 pages and on one site is it showing 404 error...
I am unable to resolve the issue

If the plugin is generating sitemap, usually yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml then the plugin is working. You cannot draw conclusion that sitemap is not working if your pages doesn't get indexed or you have 404's.

First check if the sitemap exists or not, then check its content and if you are using WMT then make sure that your sitemap is submitted and number of submitted pages are matching to your sitemap content.
