Google releasing a large update today

That's what I thought. I did plumb a lot of FAQ schema into the site which I thought may have caused this. Anyone else experienced this?

Im gonna sacrifice a neighbour. All jokes aside, thats good news even if there are no gains for my sites it still gives some hope.

For me this didnt even seem like an update, more like a penalty.

I dropped 30% last 3 days so that is 80% drop in traffic, while my competitor is now sitting on 90% of featured snippets, and the other 10% are shared by bad sites. I had featured snippets on most searched terms in my niche and now I have 0.
That competitor has 30% of spam score, full black hat.
Also, all my rich snippets are removed from google and in search console while my competitor didn't lose them.
Still, Pinterest, youtube, Reddit is ranking better than me ........
I will give google a few more days then I will start spamming blackhat.

They just want all organic clicks to be informational/educational, and any revenue generating clicks to come through their Ads platform, plain and simple.

They know that this way they can't be viewed by regulatory bodies as being 'out of order' as they are 'informing' the consumer, while of course maxing out Ads spend as a result. Win win.

I have a couple of sites in the healthcare niche and they got affected by this update.

Some keyword rankings fell very badly while a few went up. Overall this update had more of a negative effect.

What i see now on the top rankings are amazon sites and PR news...WTF google

Just woke up and seeing some good positive changes. Keywords are popping up strong, sales are pouring in that i cannot fulfill due covid but hey, the site is not dead :D

I hope this will be the beginning of the end of this update. The G gods had mercy on me.

I've lost around 40-50% traffic. Impressions on google console pretty much cut in half. Really annoying as my site was just starting to take off. Not going to change anything until at least another few days, but pretty disappointing as I haven't done anything blackhat. Really hope this starts to recover soon.

I'm in the exact same boat, really legit backlink profile on a website that just for the 3 weeks before was doing very well.

Google May update — conclusions

I finished my research yesterday. It was published on my blog.

Data source: SEMrush Sensor (Winners & Losers, USA, mobile).

The main conclusions:
1) This is not about E-A-T.
2) Core update affected Google Discover.
3) Google implemented and testing new metrics — LCP, FID, and CLS.
4) The main algorithms (Penguin, Panda, BERT) were updated.
5) Weighing of ranking signals was changed according to new quality raters' data.

Pay particular attention to the quantity and quality of backlinks. As the results of the study showed, this is one of the main reasons for the decrease in positions and traffic.

Another goal of this update is content quality. So many losers were probably punished by both the Penguin and the Panda.

sorry what is LCP, FID, and CLS ? and how does google check content quality? i may have some rare spelling issues but apart from that articles are well written
ive found that LCP is largest content paint and fid is first input delay or something like that which has to do with webpage speed. is that it?
as for CLS i dont know what it is, google says nothing

Now I am absolutely sure that this Google update favors authority websites and brands, some of the guest posts I made on strong domains and linked to my article are outranking me now for that topic and keywords.

So basically — get as many (impossible to get) high authority backlinks. So nothing much has changed much at all within the past 15 years really then.

Seeing more dancing today, some up some down. Still similar to everyone else around 40-50% down from before the update

I just investigated my -50% in traffic further and found out that:
  • Traffic from Rich Results
  • Review Snippet
  • Product Results
has gone from 100% to 0% with this update. Basically when you filter in Search Console by "Search Appearance".

Anyone experienced similar and can explain why this happened?

Yes, same thing here. All snippets gone. I have noticed they have been replaced by much shorter concise content, rather than pulling sections from long form articles. Not sure if this is across the board or not?

So basically — get as many (impossible to get) high authority backlinks. So nothing much has changed much at all within the past 15 years really then.

Our two websites from 2000 and 2006 has awesome backlinks. Everybody would dream of. We made no linkbuilding at all but have hundreds of edu links from studies, hospitals, newspapers, nonprofit organisations, insurance companies etc.. No hard anchors, just normal links... naturaly growin.

It could be everything but our links are perfect. If links, then the weight of links doestn count that much anymore.
