You can rank high your Pinterest account very high on Google on cute/pretty + keyword if you are a bit smart. 
Big authority websites can put whatever they want on a keyword, it will rank.
Google is having a hard time to distinguish quality pages. They have the most intelligent people in their search engine team but they can't make any substantial change without messing up those days. Maybe they have too much data to deal with now. I did some quick searches on BING. If people were not so used to Google they would get decent results on BING and webmasters could work more on their website instead of pleasing Google.
Honestly, since Penguin, the quality of results hasn't improved. And you can do a clean website and be impacted almost the same way as pure blackhats.

The original concept of Google Search of ranking pages based on the number of other pages linking to them (like citations of a published academic paper) is flawed. Google Search worked relatively well when there was relatively little information on the web to organise and when the problem was simply in which order to arrange 100 results.
Now there are so many pages on the web that it has to select which results are most relevant, for which it doesn't have the information. So it is still very reliant on giving a weighting to backlinks from topically relevant pages to ascertain which page is the "authority" in a particular area. But that in itself is sub-optimal because judging how topically relevant a page linking to yours is has the same problems attached to it as determining whether your page is relevant to the search query (which is why it has to rely on links).
Of course, Google can look at other factors such as number of LSI keywords or goal completion rate, but many of those are subjective as well. For example, what goal would you look to complete for informational queries such as "should I brush my hamster every day".
So far, all my competitors have fallen quite a bit due to this update, but one website is doing better than ever. I checked the site's backlink profile and it doesn't differ that much from mine (which lost about 25% traffic) and the only thing that the owner did different than all of us that got hit was posting fairly long articles (1000+ word) every single day. Yes, the articles are horrible and it's clear that the writer barely knows what he/she's talking about, but Google doesn't know that. Cloud this be a factor for who gets the top spot?

Google gives articles quality ratings. If the article was horrible like spelling errors and so on then big G evaluates that. If the text was just nonsense but written by native english speaker then the algorithms probably wont get it. If there was another competitor who posted also 1 K a day but that competitor used citations from field experts of that given niche then Google would probably rank those articles first. This is not my opinion, this is what they officially state. In your case, if the writings are shit then the algorithm probably valuates the quantity over quality.
The English is fine (no spelling errors or anything of the sorts), it's just vagueness and nonsense. I don't really judge the website for the quality of writing (until this update, I had no trouble outranking this website with far better content), it's just that one element that I found being different than the rest of us and that's the frequency of posting. I am able to post once every 3-4 days for example.

Is anyone experiencing indexing / crawling issues with Google?
Submitted my site to Google Search Console for indexing (re-crawled and requested indexing) multiple times but the results are still not updated in Google Search
This issue occurs with updated articles (articles are updated on website, but the old version remains on google) even after requesting re-index through GSC
Usually it takes around 30 seconds for the changes to reflect, not sure what's causing the delay in updating the SERPS

i lost 90% of search engine traffic with May core update
Today the loss was equal to only about 50%, which means 40% recovered...
lets see if more will recover... hopefully..

Same here at the worst I lost around 85% of all my traffic. Google said it takes two weeks for the full rollout so my guess is that they are going to start settling down now. Just praying I don't want up tomorrow and have my site obliterate again

Today is the tenth day, I believe the deployment is nearing completion. My keywords and traffic have not returned yet, I have dropped about 65%, I look forward to recovering in the last 2 days

Nope, didn't do anything besides posting a new article last night that was it. I did sacrifice one baby goat to the google gods but I don't think that had anything to do with it

Some of my keywords have recovered today and massive hike in search console impression so its looking positive. I changed my domain a week before this mess which doesnt help because like other have said indexing is messed up.

Im gonna sacrifice a neighbour. All jokes aside, thats good news even if there are no gains for my sites it still gives some hope.
For me this didnt even seem like an update, more like a penalty.
