Released the October 2023 spam update, which applies globally and improves our coverage in many languages, including Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese, and other languages.
We're releasing an update to our spam detections systems today that will improve our coverage in many languages and spam types.

This spam update aims to clean up several types of spam that our community members reported in Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese, and other languages. We expect this to reduce the visible spam in search results, particularly when it comes to cloaking, hacked, auto-generated, and scraped spam. The update will take a few weeks to roll out.

Sites that see a change after a spam update should review our spam policies. Learn more on our Google Search spam updates and your site help page.

We are grateful to our Help community and users who sent us spam reports for their valuable feedback of spam trends in various languages. These reports helped us prioritize and validate our solutions. We're already working on our next update to further protect your search experience and we appreciate your continued support! Please continue to participate in the community (which is available in multiple languages!) and send us feedback through our newly-improved spam report form.

Surprised no one started a thread on this yet.

And good luck to everyone, as always.

Looks like a minor/no-update for those with English sites, which will be most people on this forum.

Seems like they are going after more non English but I am probably wrong.

I bet you if you used a scrub service like gtranslate.io and created 101 variations of your site in other languages with zero quality checks to spam the serps, you'll be hit in this even if you survived hcu.

Again could be and probably wrong just the language from Google made me think this. Most sites should be fine that aren't spamming compared to hcu which was brutal.

The last update did a lot damage to the SERP already now a another spam update nice job Google for hitting quality websites. The not so helpful 'helpful' update.:)

I think this update is mainly for tackling spam with certain languages like; vietnamese, turkish, hindi, chinese, indonesian and a few more.

Wondering if links are included. Because this is general one.

True, lets see how it turns out. Wonder if the outlookindia type sites will finally be dealt with.

nah, they're busy kicking all of the legit sites out of the SERPs to force them into buying ads while keeping the organic search filled with garbage so they can have an excuse for replacing the SERPs with ads only and then tell people "guys, we had to do this because the SERPs are filled with garbage, only ads are relevant to your queries" :D

I hope it does not destroy more legitimate sites.

In October 2023, the Spam Update will target spam in multiple languages, including Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese, and more.

We all saw what happened with 'helpful content' update. Now with spam update, all spam websites are going to rank on the first page :D
