It also means that manufacturing/exports are doing well.

And yes, the falling oil price is hurting the Russian economy, but it is also hurting a lot of economies - including Saudi Arabia and the US.

Saudi, as well as most other oil exporting countries are not able to balance their budgets at the current prices, which means it is only going to be temporary.

Their is a price war going on, OPEC is trying to shut out the Shale producers in America that have higher costs per barrel.

That's the right thing to do. I wish more countries do this, so Google's monopol will be shaken!

Yes, indeed it?s a dangerous monopol google is keeping and destroying people?s lives by saying, we allow ?the freedom of speech? that allows people to slander each other for, regardless if it?s true or not...

On the other hand, this is where ORM comes into the game, to clean people?s reputation...

Cheers
Dan

I remember when Nokia pulled out of South Korean market 15 years ago when Nokia was the biggest mobile brand in Europe...You know why they pulled from Korea? No one was buying their phones.

Nokia should have made Dildo shaped phones , those would have given them the sales ...

The temporarily falling ruble makes salaries and rents cheaper, its even better to do business in Russia now than it was a year ago. Real investors haven't pulled out of Russia, the majority is people selling shares in Russian companies.

With that logic its good to have a bank account in Cyprus nowadays. The fees are low. However, nobody rushes to put his money there, because long term uncertainty outweighs the short term benefits.

Business Insider loses all credibility just from this part in the article

If true some of the top file hosts would have been shutdown months ago along with webmoney.

I think they are talking about freedom of information and freedom of press..not warez websites. Its not a good idea to be a dissident journalist in Russia.. you may even end up dead.

You can have a bank account in another currency in Russia or have a international bank account and still operate in Russia.

There is lots of freedom of press in Russia, but there are strong laws against Slander and Libel. Also no journalist has been killed in Russia by the government.

Bank account was just an example. I'm talking about risks.

Ofc not.. just "accidents" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_Russia

"The organization further claimed that many of the dead journalists had been critical of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Between March 2000 and July 2007, said Reporters Without Borders, 21 journalists were murdered in Russia because of their work."

Sounds like google got kicked out. They had no choice But to pull out of Russia.

No but many of those killings were due to the fact that they were criticizing the government :)

0, the Russian government doesn't kill journalists. Many of the jouranlists made enemies of the terror groups and criminal organizations.

https://cpj.org/killed/2013/akhmednabi-akhmednabiyev.php

"Grigory Shvedov, chief editor of Kavkazsky Uzel, told CPJ that he believed the killing was politically motivated and connected to Akhmednabiyev's journalism. Akhmednabiyev often covered sensitive topics, including government corruption and abductions, arbitrary detentions, and torture of local residents by local and federal authorities, according to Kavkazsky Uzel and other news reports. He accused the regional government of Akhvakh, Dagestan, of corruption, and covered protests in which local residents urged the governor to step down."

On that website you can get more information regarding all the other Journalists killed in Russia, reasons, suspects , etc. Anyway i don't wanna derail the thread and this is a talk for another topic. I think people need to be informed and combat this kind of stuff, no need to blindly defend our governments .. most of the time they don't represent the people's.
