Here is something I have not encountered before. I have a client who is a financial advisor for a a large company. This company will not allow them to have their own website , but will allow them to promote a Google Places page.

What would be the best approach to promote a Google Places page?

yes nice question I like to know this to.....Also what helps bring OUT the google places in the listings...

interesting... id rather have a separate domain name, this is overkill

I have promoted several local businesses in Google Places. The key (from what I have found) is consistency. You need to have the business name, address, phone number, website listed in as many places as possible. It needs to be the exact same in as many places as possible. You can use Yellowpages, Yelp, and many other places to get these listed. There are a lot more tricks to it but that is one of the first steps to focus on.

Interesting. What about taking another approach. Instead of promoting your clients 'Google Places Page' - why not have some of his clients post positive feedback about him in facebook and blogs. If you wanted to be sneaky you could create fictitious reviews of his service and reference his Google Places page and/or phone number. This way you could promote him indirectly.

Google cares a lot about the Yahoo Directory. If you can get the Yahoo Directory (which is $300 a year) to post his business, that would help. But with Yahoo Directory, you have to pay first, and you don't get your money back if Yahoo decides not to list it.
