Google Penguin Recovery Plan

This whole 301 redirect thing on a penalised domain passing through the penalty to the new domain is questionable. Whats stopping me from getting 10 or so penalised domains and pointing them to a competitor and have their domain penalised too?

Surely this is far too easy to destroy competitors if someone wanted to with a few clicks here and there. Then again a well established high ranking pure link profile etc website is indestructable to these kinds of things and that it only works on a fresh or low established low link profile site.

What do you guys think?

Depends how relevant the domain that you're 301'ing to is. It's the same as buying links for a competitor. Essentially a 301 is just passing links from domain A to domain B.

Everything in SEO is questionable, lol.
 
Well, to the OP I want to say thanks.
There are lots of people on here who are complete smartarses when it comes to SEO, particularly the ones who never get around to actually doing anything and just spend all day, every day stalking 'blackhat' forums and hiding behind names like SEO God and the like.
Try it or don't try it but respect for the OP and anyone who takes time out of their schedule to explain their process, whatever that may be.

Thanks dude. It helps me keep a log of things when I post something like this and it's useful to gain data that we can use for the future.

Since a lot of people have implemented it, I'm sure they'll come here if their site gets hit again or something and then we can all discuss strategies to help each other out. Data is the most important and that's what we're collecting here.

Data turns speculation into a reality.

I am subjected to Google so much and hard to get rid of G ...

You can do 2 things at once... redirect and at the same time clean up your link profile.

one thing is that it seems like nobody lost rankings so far after 301 redirect... and it's been over a month.

I'd say this is still risky, you don't really know which of the links were toxic. I'd put the efforts of building new links into a completely new website that you can try and steer away from a penalty.

Whilst using this one to just pump some more money whilst the 301 is kicking.

Oh yeah, I totally understand why you're doing the 301 redirect and I'm totally with you here. I'm just curious to see how this goes and for how long.
As I said before, you can do 301 redirect while cleaning up your link profile and hope the penalty gets remove while you still make money.
OP, you started a very good thread and I just hoped more people would be willing to share their 301-redirect journey here.

An update would be nice... did anybody lose rankings after 301-redirects?

So, we ended up completely removing the client's link from ALL web 2.0s that were using over-optimized anchors, we got the anchor text changed on any PBN post to branded or generic anchors, and we reached out and got 95% of the spammy ******** blog comments removed.



Since we were only able to remove 95%, we submitted the rest to the disavow tool.

This is the quote from your promoted article... i'm sorry but I've done some clean up in the past and read a lot about it and you get about 5%-10% of people replying to you... and your 95% figure is really exaggerated.

It's not an exaggeration when you know the service that was used to acquire the ******** blog comments and the vendor gets them removed for you.

After years away from forums and nearly having given up on a digital "social" life these types of threads inspire me to get back to sharing actionable insights and doing case studies in the public eye. Amazing the good that can come from it and if theres a 50% flame ratio, that's pretty. Ever heard of Reddit? Nuff said....

Hate to bring up the dead but for those that are interested in recovery, I still haven't had my website hit after following this.
