Google more liberal on AI domains

Global companies can now use .AI domains after Google's recent change to treat it as a gTLD. I suggest always verifying that your preferred domain extension will be seen globally.

For those uninformed:

• There are two main types of website domains - generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like .com, and country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .uk.
• gTLDs can be used globally, while ccTLDs are associated with specific countries and may only show up for local searches.
• .AI is technically a ccTLD associated with the country of Anguilla. But many global companies use it because AI stands for artificial intelligence.

Now, someone asked Google if global companies should use .AI, or if Google treats it as a ccTLD just for Anguilla. Google said that as of June 2023, they treat .AI as a gTLD for search purposes. So global companies can use it. This is surprising because until recently, Google treated .AI as a localized ccTLD. The change happened in June 2023. It's important to check if Google treats your preferred domain as a gTLD or ccTLD. Using a ccTLD could limit your global reach. Google has a list of ccTLDs that it treats as global gTLDs, like .eu, .asia, .tv, etc.
