Because Google wasn't the one to actually release it. Generally companies do the release close to or after the trade deadline of that day. In this instance, it was the publishing company RRD that jumped the gun. That really is great news. It's difficult to understand how a giant company like Google could accidentally release their figures early by mistake.
They are so busy with watching all of us that they actually forgot to watch themselves.
One smart move for apple would be to build their own SE. They have the funds, they have the intelligence resources and that would definitely fry google...especially since safari users would be connected/forced to get used to it by default.
Some people get it in this thread, and many do not. To those who say rejoice in Google's demise, there is no demise. There is only affected revenue earnings. I get it that there are many script kiddies and backlink masters on this board, but very few economists. Do yourself a favor and read into what this actually means for Google and then project on how both the searching public and the webmaster have to contend with Google's response to this 22B dollar loss. Clearly Google isn't driving any new business model ventures. Google Wallet, Google+ are pretty much not the revenue generators Google hoped they would be. I suspect that we'll see a quick response in layout changes soon to further drive revenue via cpc. That is NOT the answer anyone on this board wants to see.
how does "let's click on ads" meme come up again?
I've seen it in the other big thread.
Do some of you click on my ads and find it fun and hilarious?

Does anyone think Google reduced earnings so that they can cry to the FTC that they are losing money?
They consider that cheating the advertisers,
So it seeems when we do it its cheating, when google do it. Its giving the people what they want.
In this way everybody loses bar google
blah blah blah, moan moan moan.
All I see these days is people moaning about big bad Google.
It would be bad enough if you were just regular small business owners, in which case I would still remind you that your business is YOUR responsibility and if you fail then it's YOUR FAULT, not Google's. Employee mindset = others are responsible, others need to make it work for me. Wealthy mindset = I'm responsible, I need to make it work.
What makes this worse is the fact that for years you guys have spammed the hell out of Google, created autoblogs, created fake blogs to sell junk, created shady squeeze pages, cloaked pages to deceive users and google, pushed shady weight loss/biz ops/teeth whitening on adwords before they put a stop to that, spammed fake job listings on craigslist to dupe out of work people into getting their cc out. The list goes on..
How in the hell can half of you sit there with a straight face and say Google is cheating people. WTF?
They're a business and they're trying to maximize profit. What do you expect them to do? Put ads at the bottom of the page? Put them on page 2?
What you're forgetting is google.com IS GOOGLE'S WEB PAGE. You're essentially being listed on their web site. THEIR HOUSE, THEIR RULES.
If you want to make your site 99% ads and have all ads above the fold then go right ahead, no one is stopping you but Google don't want that kind of site on their own site, get it?
If you had a high quality gaming blog and you were linking to a few other sites and you happened to notice 1 of the sites was super-spammy then you would remove it because it damages your business.
Stop acting like damn employees and start acting like business people or you're always going to be at the mercy of others.
Do we claim to have user's best interests?
Google claim to do no evil.
Yet they will fuck you over and shut you down at a moments notice just to appease their shareholders.
They're hypocritical and while we do things to make a fuck dollars, they will destroy people's livelyhoods for less. Some of their changes make no sense other than to make more money, but they do it under a dirty deceitful disguise.
Google have the market cornered
i don't want to use their search engine but if i don't then i lose my income.
You target the keyword "weight loss" and because of your super SEO skills you take the top five search rankings in Google, Yahoo and Bing for the keyword. It can now be said that you have a monopoly on the keyword "weight loss". At this point would you give up 50% of your business because you feel it is unfair to have a monopoly? No Blackhatter worth his salt would.
This is like comparing apples to hamburgers. Granted, both are edible, but have little else in common.
A webmaster having good ranks for a single keyword is far from being a monopoly. Unlike Google, the webmaster does not control the distribution channel. You see, trying to make such comparisons overlooks some very simple facts:
1. Google controls roughly 65% of the distribution channel.
2. By controlling the distribution channel, Google can and does determine who competes online and how.
There's a big difference between controlling a distribution channel and a webmaster ranking well for a keyword. Any actions such a webmaster may take would not have broad implications across the world and surely not outside their industry. lol Google's actions do, mostly because monopolies have that kind of power. If Google were not a monopoly, you would not see all types of industries up-ended each time Google performs an algorithm update.
Combining Google's services, products and other owned companies (YouTube), Google can and has essentially consumed much of the distribution channel with their own offerings. No webmaster would have such capabilities to consume everything above the fold in any search engine. That's part of the reason why I believe comparing a webmaster with good ranks for a keyword to a monopoly is short-sighted, to put it to you gently.
The above highlights the problem with antitrust laws that date back to the horse and buggy days. Most monopolies back in that era were industry specific. Google's actions impact businesses in all industries and around the world. The case that the FTC brings against Google should be used to formulate new laws that deal with issues in the digital age. New laws should be developed to prohibit any one company from being able to manipulate eCommerce, which is a one trillion dollar a year industry, to such a large degree.
If you have 50% of the search results for 'weight loss' then that IS a monopoly. Distribution channels have NOTHING to do with it. Your competitor is not Google!! What does Google owning the distribution channel have to do with that at all? That's like saying if you go to a trade show then the organizers of the trade show have an unfair advantage over you because they own the distribution channel. It's ludicrous and entirely nonsensical.
