Google misses earning expectations! Rejoice!

That really is great news. It's difficult to understand how a giant company like Google could accidentally release their figures early by mistake.

They are so busy with watching all of us that they actually forgot to watch themselves.

Because Google wasn't the one to actually release it. Generally companies do the release close to or after the trade deadline of that day. In this instance, it was the publishing company RRD that jumped the gun.

One smart move for apple would be to build their own SE. They have the funds, they have the intelligence resources and that would definitely fry google...especially since safari users would be connected/forced to get used to it by default.

I bet this is in apples plans. They have slowly moved into more ways to make money in the mobile space. Not sure how well the iAD platform is doing, but a SE on their mobile device that is "default" instead of Google or Bing would be a very smart move. Sure, people could change the default SE, but many would just use it, because it is there.

Some people get it in this thread, and many do not. To those who say rejoice in Google's demise, there is no demise. There is only affected revenue earnings. I get it that there are many script kiddies and backlink masters on this board, but very few economists. Do yourself a favor and read into what this actually means for Google and then project on how both the searching public and the webmaster have to contend with Google's response to this 22B dollar loss. Clearly Google isn't driving any new business model ventures. Google Wallet, Google+ are pretty much not the revenue generators Google hoped they would be. I suspect that we'll see a quick response in layout changes soon to further drive revenue via cpc. That is NOT the answer anyone on this board wants to see.

I think there is only upside in the earnings miss by Google, UNLESS you are a shareholder or run adsense. Those who run adsense probably have seen this earnings miss coming.

But for those who do PPC, good times. You are getting a lower CPC rate. I am sure this has to do with more competition in the space. Advertisers can use Facebook or other marketing platforms.

This all comes down to Google's monopoly. The less power they have in the space, the better for all. The more powerful they are, they can dictate ALL of the terms. Do we really want one large player making all of the rules? I hope they miss another quarter, and their strangle hold loosens some more. It would be great if Bing could get it together and close the gap a little. More competition would be great.

The reason this is happening is quiet simple
Google has increased the number of ads while reducing the number of organic searches.

More people ar clicking on ads, People who would not normally click on ads or actually purchase on the internet are now doing so by mistake,

The ads are becoming less effective, and companies are not seeing the rate of return they expect, so they are bidding lower.

As more and more companies bid lower, Google must do one of two things
place more ads and remove organic search from the front page.

Which over the last 6 months seems to have been their plan,
The 15% drop in the ppc was probably expected,
Just having the result released a few hours early, probably caught them unaware, and they had'nt their damage
control, fully set up.

Tomorrow or the next few days at latest. google stock will recover and it will be business as usual.

Their real problem is they are not giving people what they want, in their search results. and this will kill them in the end.

Personally my old eyes are not as good at spotting the ads anymore, so im am probably the one cicking on ads
wasting the advertisers money,

Most advertisers dont know how to optimize their landing pages, so adwords is a big fail for them.

Its no longer about adwords against organic search.
The competition is now between advertisers, and the best landing pages will win.

As Black hatters, this is where we should be looking, to make money in the future.

If you really want google to rollback and give organic reults more prevalence
click on their ads.

The advertisers have no recourse for getting their money back from clickfraud. google justs pockets that money
But clicking on ads on the search page, may force them to spend extra money to distinguish, auto clickers, from genuine buyers.

Their revenue is going up with the methods even if the cpc is down 15%.
Projected earnings mean nothing. the only thing that will stop them is too many useless clicks.

The name of the game will be not to wipe out your organic search competitors, but to knock out your advertising competitors, by cicking on their ads.

And thats a hell of a lot easier to do, than de-indexing an authority site.

Google has know for years, the ads on search pages is their big earner but also their biggest weakness.

The day has finally arrived where their greed has made them step over the line.

It will be interesting to see how they handle this. I am sure the big advertisers are getting great reductions, while the small local guys are screwwd over as usual.

This is the explanation for the 15% drop in ppc prices

Lower profits for Google doesn't necessarily mean we should rejoice, possibly the opposite...

This thread has definitely taken on a life of its own!

how does "let's click on ads" meme come up again?

I've seen it in the other big thread.

Do some of you click on my ads and find it fun and hilarious?

Penguin BH 1.0 released, 8% of marker share will be affected ! Loll

Dpn't blame the people who click on ads

Ig google continues to fill up above the fold with ads and continues to diguise them so people dont know thay are ads
this will continue to get worse for you.

The maths are wuiet simple 3% of the people are responsible for 90% of all sales on the internet

That means 97% are just looking for information.
Google has trained us to belive the best results are on top.

People have learned that gooogle places there ads on top

so they click down lower above the fold.

So this is why the ads are getting 33% more clicks

Google is deceiving people into clicking on ads and the advertisers are the ones suffering

If you feel your ads are attracting too many bad clicks, ask google for a refund. Dont complain about the por suckers who are being deceived into clicking on your ads.

If we did that as webmasters, gooogle would shut us down instantly,

They consider that cheating the advertisers,

So it seeems when we do it its cheating, when google do it. Its giving the people what they want.

In this way everybody loses bar google

This is the reason they've been pushing PPC so much. They need to keep growing but they can't. They're squeezing ever last dime out of users and webmasters even if it costs others their business. They will force people into PPC.

blah blah blah, moan moan moan.

All I see these days is people moaning about big bad Google.

It would be bad enough if you were just regular small business owners, in which case I would still remind you that your business is YOUR responsibility and if you fail then it's YOUR FAULT, not Google's. Employee mindset = others are responsible, others need to make it work for me. Wealthy mindset = I'm responsible, I need to make it work.

What makes this worse is the fact that for years you guys have spammed the hell out of Google, created autoblogs, created fake blogs to sell junk, created shady squeeze pages, cloaked pages to deceive users and google, pushed shady weight loss/biz ops/teeth whitening on adwords before they put a stop to that, spammed fake job listings on craigslist to dupe out of work people into getting their cc out. The list goes on..

How in the hell can half of you sit there with a straight face and say Google is cheating people. WTF?

They're a business and they're trying to maximize profit. What do you expect them to do? Put ads at the bottom of the page? Put them on page 2?

What you're forgetting is google.com IS GOOGLE'S WEB PAGE. You're essentially being listed on their web site. THEIR HOUSE, THEIR RULES.

If you want to make your site 99% ads and have all ads above the fold then go right ahead, no one is stopping you but Google don't want that kind of site on their own site, get it?

If you had a high quality gaming blog and you were linking to a few other sites and you happened to notice 1 of the sites was super-spammy then you would remove it because it damages your business.

Stop acting like damn employees and start acting like business people or you're always going to be at the mercy of others.

Do we claim to have user's best interests? Google claim to do no evil.

Yet they will fuck you over and shut you down at a moments notice just to appease their shareholders.

They're hypocritical and while we do things to make a fuck dollars, they will destroy people's livelyhoods for less. Some of their changes make no sense other than to make more money, but they do it under a dirty deceitful disguise.

Google have the market cornered, i don't want to use their search engine but if i don't then i lose my income.

Ah, so it's ok for you because you don't claim to have anyone's best interest in mind. Ok, great.

Google claim to do no evil.

Yes, and I don't see them being evil. They provide a boatload of free tools, maps of the world and have done a tremendous amount of good. You just aren't interested in any of this because you're viewing them from a subjective viewpoint of trying to profit from the search engine.

An example of an evil company is a care home who has foul conditions for its residents, treats them like crap behind closed doors and makes their life a living hell.

Evil is a powerful word. I would hardly call making changes to your search algorithm evil.

The basic problem is you're lumping everything that's not saintly behavior into 'evil'. Google are neutral when it comes to their main business and fairly 'good' when it comes to other aspects of their business. Try to imagine a world without Google, Microsoft and Apple. They've brought so much into the world. Compare that with some of these shady advertisers who make $100's of millions creating acai berry products/teeth whitening/biz ops which cause misery for millions of people over the years.

Yet they will fuck you over and shut you down at a moments notice just to appease their shareholders.

This is highly subjective. They're not "fucking you over". They're making changes to their business to make more profit. What do you expect them to do?

Garbage. Utter garbage. YOUR LIVELIHOOD IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

When will people stop blaming governments, corporations, their boss, their parents, the weather and the neighbor's cat for their failures?

If you base your entire business and the ability to put food on the table on ranking on a search engine then that's your decision, your risk and ultimately your failure.

A good business will have regular clients/customers, new business from word of mouth, possibly a brand, a real marketing plan which can include radio, tv, magazines, newspapers, seo, ppc, media buys, a social media presence, flyers, trade shows, business networking.. The list goes on. Learn about business and marketing.

Google have the market cornered

They have it cornered because they provide a service people are happy with and no one has come along that provides a better one. Economics 101.

i don't want to use their search engine but if i don't then i lose my income.

PRECISELY. You got it it one.

You've based on your entire business on the policies of a single company and now you're claiming they're evil because they've changed policies.

There's a million ways to make money not just online, but everywhere around you. Take responsibility, learn your lessons and build more businesses.

You target the keyword "weight loss" and because of your super SEO skills you take the top five search rankings in Google, Yahoo and Bing for the keyword. It can now be said that you have a monopoly on the keyword "weight loss". At this point would you give up 50% of your business because you feel it is unfair to have a monopoly? No Blackhatter worth his salt would.

This is like comparing apples to hamburgers. Granted, both are edible, but have little else in common.

A webmaster having good ranks for a single keyword is far from being a monopoly. Unlike Google, the webmaster does not control the distribution channel. You see, trying to make such comparisons overlooks some very simple facts:

1. Google controls roughly 65% of the distribution channel.
2. By controlling the distribution channel, Google can and does determine who competes online and how.

There's a big difference between controlling a distribution channel and a webmaster ranking well for a keyword. Any actions such a webmaster may take would not have broad implications across the world and surely not outside their industry. lol Google's actions do, mostly because monopolies have that kind of power. If Google were not a monopoly, you would not see all types of industries up-ended each time Google performs an algorithm update.

Combining Google's services, products and other owned companies (YouTube), Google can and has essentially consumed much of the distribution channel with their own offerings. No webmaster would have such capabilities to consume everything above the fold in any search engine. That's part of the reason why I believe comparing a webmaster with good ranks for a keyword to a monopoly is short-sighted, to put it to you gently.

The above highlights the problem with antitrust laws that date back to the horse and buggy days. Most monopolies back in that era were industry specific. Google's actions impact businesses in all industries and around the world. The case that the FTC brings against Google should be used to formulate new laws that deal with issues in the digital age. New laws should be developed to prohibit any one company from being able to manipulate eCommerce, which is a one trillion dollar a year industry, to such a large degree.

Oh god, Blueturtle i'm not even bothering to reply. Fortunately the majority of us understand what Google's new apparent policy and actions mean for the future of webmasters and SEO. There's too much hypocrisy in your post and misunderstanding the of bigger picture.

While innocently built websites are being nuked by Google you have no argument that can stand up and make Google look like a good business.

I don't believe it is morally right for Google to do the things they do.

By your rules, you're saying people should accept any situation if it is not in their control. This is utter bullshit. The fucking LAW states that companies have a responsibility to their customers, users and employees.

PS* Drop the "its only your own fault" line.

What a load of utter mince. I've really lost all respect for you with some of your recent comments. The one above about Google deliberately lowering profits to appease the FTC is just beyond words.

Then you said Google should pay webmasters royalties.. I'm not even going to comment on why that's ridiculous.

Now you're just talking nonsense about distribution channels. What you're saying doesn't make sense. Google didn't just come into existence with a market share. They started off as a small company with 0 market share and grew. Every company in existence has a 'distribution channel'. You're making out Google has some unfair edge which other companies don't have.

You seriously don't understand how business works and this is the fundamental problem. I don't think you've got any real world business experience based on what you're saying.

EVERY company expands through its area of influence/distribution channels. Why do you think this is an unfair thing? If I own a race track and decide I'm going to start another company selling thrill rides in race cars then I'm going to promote that company at my race track and push it on race days.

If you have 50% of the search results for 'weight loss' then that IS a monopoly. Distribution channels have NOTHING to do with it. Your competitor is not Google!! What does Google owning the distribution channel have to do with that at all? That's like saying if you go to a trade show then the organizers of the trade show have an unfair advantage over you because they own the distribution channel. It's ludicrous and entirely nonsensical.

I never asked for your respect or anyone elses.

Using your own analogy, why would a webmaster that has 50% of the search results considered a monopoly when Google displays 100% paid listings for a search query not a monopoly? Can't you see how absurd your statement is? If you defended Google with such a defense in a FTC hearing, you would be laughed out of the room.

Very short-sighted you are...
