Google March 2024 Core Update Released: bigger than before!

So you have pretty much what I have... this makes me think that you were NOT penalised for those 2 AI posts. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah, unfortunately, I have to agree that velocity plays an important role (links and content).
Your right, it's not an Ai penalty - just preferential treatment for the larger sites by the look of it

I'm going to be creating more Social Media content from now on......

Also....

Can someone tell me what the hell is going on with this, I've had this email before, but never for this many pages

They are taking away all my traffic with one hand and then on the other indexing another 81 pages?

Got a GSC email overnight

"Google has validated your fix of Page indexing issues on site xxx The specific issue validated was: Discovered - currently not indexed.

81 pages on your site were validated as fixed."

Talk about mixed messages o_O

I got 3 posts out of 50 that were ai generated. Already had them removed in GSC but seems that I've been killed off here too. The site is still indexed but I see it keeps swallowing organic kws every 5-10min on Ahrefs until I reach zero traffic I presume.

Just to add to my previous post

All the URLs of my sites are indexed but the organic traffic from Google seems to have disappeared.
same here. no ai, no spam, 10 page site go down to 0 impression. before that getting 500 impression/day

I've noticed a 70% drop in traffic on some of my websites since they started implementing this crap on March 5th.

All of them are fast, clean, without ai and backlink spam, about 1 year old.

Of course, the CTR has skyrocketed because people are still searching for my sites in lower positions.

Google used to be a good source of traffic, but since late 2023, they've lost their minds, implementing only shitty updates that favor Reddit and ugc.

I have sites numbering in the 3 figures. Majority of which have for several years used a mix of human / spintax content, with recent months incorporating chatgpt.

As of 7th March, about 50% of our sites have disappeared from Search.

I am doing more in depth analysis today and will report my findings.

What I've found so far:
  1. Site rankings have disappeared. <100
  2. There are no manual penalties, on any sites I've checked so far.
  3. There has been no drop of indexed pages, on any sites I've checked so far. URLs remain indexed according to Google Search Console, only rankings have disappeared.
  4. The low quality content has taken the entire site down with it. We have not been judged on a page by page basis, instead on a site wide basis.

Comparing the 50% that survived, to 50% that died. Here is my analysis on content:
  • Low word count, fluff spintax content - 100% gone.
  • Mix of human, spintax and chatgpt - 50/50.
  • Human written content - 100% remain.

Out of our automated content sites, the ones surviving are the ones that have incorporated more relavant and specific content using chatgpt. Content that has relevant and well organized subheadings. The prompts we are using are several paragraphs long, and we are not telling chatgpt to avoid ai detection with "burstiness" and other crap. We have found short prompts and telling chatgpt to avoid ai detection produces ridiculous OTT fluff content.

We were hit pretty hard in the 2023 March + April + May Google spam content updates. But each time, our sites started to recover after 1 week, and after adjusting our content strategy, sites recovered fully after a few weeks. We did not remove any content.

We are hoping we can recover in a similar fashion on this update, but this update has been the biggest most damaging we have ever experienced.

It's worth mentioning, I have an acquaintance who works with OpenAI and I was told last June that OpenAI was working on cryptographically adding a watermark to generated content, specifically on Googles request.

Hope my insights are helpful to some. I will report back if any new findings.

i haven't read anything about these updates. can i back my traffic back

Here're reddit traffic stats

G are killing small sites

Need to have different GSC for each site.
Got hit for some sites, for some no.
So will see whats next.

"Scaled content abuse search spam
The scaled content abuse search spam is an update to the old “spammy automatically-generated content” policy that now goes beyond just “spammy auto-generated content” and is now inclusive of any method of producing content at scale for the purpose of ranking in search."

It's not about AI or automation only. It's about people too.

Problem is keywords. You, everyone is using ahrefs or other keyword tools to craft titles and articles.
You are focusing more on keywords than on content and useful information. Personal style, avoiding overspamed keywords.
When you are writing articles in 2024, fck keywords. Google AI systems are strong enough to understand your website content.
Using such sites like ahrefs to craft articles later is jumping to the pool full of competitiors. Also AI can understand if your content was created more for search engine than for people.

I used this plugin for a long time to ...
So when i first request review after the "Spam" notification

The Google crawler insane jump on the translate pages, /jp/ or /es/ etc.
So in the first request, before i got the new alert with spam and the blog didn't was fixed message from Google and i saw a huge crawler scan via translate pages.
After Google sent the message that "The website hasn't been fixed" i saw a drop in the crawler on the translate pages.
So after checking this information i gather, i decide to remove the translate plugin, and request it back to Google.
So after i request the second time, i see again a huge crawler on the translate pages only.
So 99% is translate pages crawler ...
So first request in 12 hours i have the answer "no" from Google, now even after 24 hours still no answer, and still a big crawler on the translate pages.
I just said my experience here, I'm not sure if this fixed the issue, till i don't get an answer from Google i can't know but hope this can help some other webmasters study and share their own experiences trying to fix their blogs/websites.
But this would make sense if you had your site translated into several languages. I now have 4 languages on my site. The crawler should be hitting a non-english page 75% of the time.

After facing a significant setback last month when Amazon unjustly withheld $2k in commissions from my affiliate account despite my appeal, I have now encountered another blow.

Google has F*cked several of my websites that generate decent money. These actions by major corporations driven by greed have made it increasingly difficult for me to earn a living online. I believe this is the nail in the coffin for me I'm done.

This is what i see ... anyway even till now i have had no answer from Google and the blog is still not back on Google, so if what i did is right or not still not sure :) anyway, i will update here if anyone is interested in this info.
This is the first time my network got a huge hit ... i hope Google knows what they are doing ... killing so many blogs not sure if is really a good idea ...

I've spent a lot of time today analyzing the sites that got hit.

It seems our biggest problem has been legacy product pages from 1-3 years ago that had low value fluff content. Most of our sites that had 60+ of these posts have disappeared from search.

We have taken a selection of these sites and removed all outdated posts. We will see what effect it has.

Taken from the article:
Google is updating multiple core systems, “there will be more fluctuations in rankings than with a regular core update, as different systems get fully updated and reinforce each other,”

There is a chance your rankings may recover as the core update continues.

My network got hit very hard in March 2023 and May 2023. Within 5-7 days rankings automatically started to recover without much action.

Exactly, business as usual until this update is finished, then read some case studies/in depth analysis and change if needs be.
