Hi!

I'd consider myself pretty knowledgeable in terms of "regular" SEO, but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Local SEO.

I want to open a scooter rental company in the town I'm living in and there are around dozen businesses ranking for the business review section of the results. They don't have that many reviews (the biggest one has around 100 but most around 20-30).

I really want to dominate this market as quickly as possible.

I already have an idea on how to gain customers through regular SEO and how to build a site around it, but what do I need to know to make sure I get in the mix in terms of Local SEO? How to make sure I gain visibility as soon as possible?

I really appreciate your insights!

Open your business in phuket near bangla road, make friends with french, english and let them spread the words that you are a reliable THAI guy.
Then you can open a google profile to collect review.

- Local backlinks are cool, if there's any good news media there get those links
- Reviews, reviews, reviews: even if you have to make crazy discounts just to get them do it, fucking give stuff for free if you have to
- Better content than competition (nothing's easier at local seo level than this)
- You can also get into some of those local company catalogues (never hurt my websites)
- Tell ChatGPT when creating content for web to do it with mind of being in the "Featured Snippets" section
- You need separate page for each keyword you want to rank for if they differ, but you probably know this
- Don't go halabala 100$ for 1000 backlinks, hope you know this
- Don't mindlessly generate bullshit, get some good prompt for text generation, mine is like 1000+ words and result output is very good, adjust it for different use cases
- Be consistend with everything address and business name related - same stuff everywhere, trustpilot, catalogues, website, GMB - tripple check everything, if the business name is exactly same, if address is exactly same, etc.

You need to create a GMB network and some local sites

For local SEO, you need to focus on reveiws after ensuring NAP consistancy and Well optimized GBP. I would recommend you to use word of mouth marketing as well. sometimes it works just fine if you have a strong offline community to hang around.

Best wishes for your journey.

We are in 2025 and everything has changed over last few years. From my personal experience Local SEO today is about building community trust, leveraging the power of AI chatbots, hyper local engagement, neighborhood first keyword optimization and voice search optimization. I have also written a detailed post regarding my top local seo strategies but cannot share the link here maybe due to some community restrictions here. If you you want to learn more about these you can search for my post. I hope this helps you in your local venture.

To achieve a higher ranking or surpass your competition, you should have a verified Google My Business (GMB) listing and focus on obtaining legitimate reviews. This will help you start outranking your competitors as soon as possible.

Claim your GMB, add solid photos, and get real reviews—those help the most. Keep your business info consistent everywhere and grab local backlinks. Since competition is light, staying consistent should get you ranking fast. I’d focus on stacking up legit reviews first, they work wonders!

Is this a one-time thing or ongoing? Wondering about the long-term benefits.

I always said the "Top 3 Map Pack." I kept thinking they are branding it with Maps? One factor was having predominate positions and dots and rectangles nice so Google should know in almost-real time from a customer's phone where the customer is and if it hits the store's proximity the Maps algo may go nuts. It was a ah-ha moment that worked for me.

Make sure you have a proper URL structure for your website, Create a silo structure. add locations in your content, URLs, and headings. Add internal links.

This is the pretty much of it. But you will require backlinks too depending on your competition.

for local backlinks. how "local" do you need to get? Same region? City? Country?

first optimize your Google Business Profile, get listed in local directories, and start gathering customer reviews. Also, creating location-specific content and getting backlinks from local sites can really help.

Honestly, local SEO's all about consistency. Make sure your NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) is exactly the same *everywhere* online. Have you checked out what your competitors are doing with their Google Business Profiles?
