Google Keyword Tool - Trying Not to Panic

I'm currently "helping out" a guy with getting his site up, and decided to take a look at the keywords he's chosen. Now these are quite bad keywords, chosen by a noob, but they still show you how much there is actually difference in Keyword Tool and Keyword Planner. Figures below are country/language specified local monthly searches.

Old Keyword Tool:
KW1: 320
KW2: 320
KW3: 8100
KW4: 4400

Keyword Planner:
KW1: 70
KW2: 210
KW3: 260
KW4: 1900

Now you do the math, but one of these is way off the other. Either the information fed to us before was incorrect and has now been corrected, or now we're shown information that we can't really put our fingers on.

No offense to the OP of course but this is where the quiet guy gets to shine.

In a nutshell, learning the new program and moving on is much more time-efficient than freaking out. Hope this helps. Have fun with new challenges.

they reduced the number of keywords that we can input too.
 
Still works for me. I can use the Keyword tool without having to sign in :P
Its gonna suck when they remove it though..

I have a suggestion that might help figure why there's a huge disparity. It's a suggestion that might clear up the mystery as to why you show much less volume with Keyword Planner. When you did the comparison, are you 100% certain that you did not have the Keyword Tool set at Broad match? Because if you did, then you goofed. We need to know, because Keyword Planner shows numbers for Exact match type, which could be the reason for the discrepancy. Run it again and this time be sure that you have the Keyword Tool set at Exact match and not Broad match. And then come back and post the numbers so we can see the results. If you didn't goof, if you ran both with Exact match, then Keyword Planner is to blame.

They updated it or something. But the results are same to me.
 
You will still go back to keyword tool, but thats a temporary solution. To be honest, keyword planner is much better than keyword tool.
 
I hate this keyword Google Keyword Planner I doesn't give many keyword variations of the LSI keywords that I want and you have log into a adwords account to use Keyword Planner.You don't see local searches anymore.Google is forcing paid advertising.Google is cracking down on IM no joke.
 
Keyword Planner combines the benefits of keyword tool and traffic forecasting in an integrated workflow.

Moonshine have you been swimming in fermented alcohol? Google says the average monthly search volume is specific to your targeting settings. That means you can get data for an entire country or individual cities and regions within a country. Note that you can still get global monthly search data by targeting all locations. "Specific to your target settings" means you can get local search volume for Pineapple, Illinois, population 2,000. Feel a bit better now?
 
I am using keyword planner. It works fine for me. And also I am concentrating on doing SEO. SEO is the main thing to increase the traffic.
 
Keyword Planner is probably the best option here and it will eventually replace the old tool anyway. Plus, it is more useful for advertisers when making ad campaigns which is essential when doing PPC. It's useful either when your starting a whole new campaign or in your existing lists. It's time that we start learning our ways through this new tool.
 
It's almost the same thing as the keyword tool just a different interface.

The only weird thing though is that the search volumes don't change when I choose [Exact] matches but I guess it's a small bug.
