Google is getting into banking

Guess people think the adverts they see on TV has nothing to do with what you been searching or speaking about ... LOL

I don't claim to know anything on this subject and could entirely be wrong...

I believe on cable TV and OTA (Over-The-Air.. aka: antenna) programming is all pre-set way ahead of time. Ive never once in my life searched up a product and then come across a commercial advertising that product, not once. Commercials are not dynamic, they are set way ahead of time and are bid on based on time of day, audience, viewers...etc in an auction type system. Now streaming sites... no idea how that works lol.

Could be said an easy way to get your Adsense payments, or maybe it gives them chance to spy on where you're buying your seo from

Google is getting into banking with the search giant set to offer checking accounts next year

So another datapoint for Google Ads
- Have checking account
- Balance of checking account

.....
While I use a bunch of Google's stuff (likely as most people), I truly see no benefit with using them for a simple checking account to pay them back with data for that one.

No that used to be the case and still is for some events sports as they can charge larger amounts of money for a guaranteed reach.

But not everyone will see the same adverts. Its a mix of your postal area and how rich/poor it is - or if your on a streaming service it can be linked to what you search / view.

Television has to compete with the internet and the ad revenue with it. Everything is targeted. Everything is linked.

This happens now based on how old your phone is and where and what you are browsing.

Did you not know some holiday firms will adjust prices based on how old your computer / phone / browser is? Sometimes it pays to book holidays using an older platform...

If you get a chance to see some the marketing information companies can get their hands on it will shock you.
Wonderful, I just learned this top-secret 1st time in my life that Google showing ads based on my Search & Device, LOL. Many thanks for the Information.

Yes man it shows you adverts based on your history correct. Don't think I was trying to say other wise..

But I think you took my reply and missed what I was saying by a mile.. Adverts and what they show does not need to link to your banking information in order to target adverts based on how much money you have.

In marketing (if you buy big data) there is a whole section relating to people who buy the latest tech tend to have more money than those who are on an older phone and will often or not spend money where price is not a factor (removing phone contracts from it and leaning / loans etc) so your device hardware can and does reflect the cost of some products and the value of that advert that is displayed to you..

As I was saying a travel agent a few years ago used to adjust prices by £20 based on how old your browser was. £20 isn't much but when you consider how many people book online it's an extra bit of money for little effort..

Given Google's uncanny ability to record/collect/cross-reference user info, what could possibly go wrong with this foray into banking?

Add this to the list where they can improve user experience based on their account

Everybody will use their bank account, like with maps, gmail ,YouTube ,and so on .They always offer effective services nobody can't resist to use. That's sad they are going to control everything .

"Google does not intend to sell customers’ data, Caesar Sengupta, an executive at the firm, told the Journal."

And I'm the Queen of England.

Greg, you would make a wonderful Queen.

I'm not saying what they will do is something that is out of line but I do believe that Google is a BH entity on a level that is so above what almost any of us.

No sense not calling them out for their BH ways.

And, you are correct, if I were a Queen I would kill it but please do not tell my wife.

It's a big company guys your opinion dont matter a crappola shit to the company, if you hate them just stop feeding them as simple as that!

Interesting and troublesome, to say the least. Especially concerning is that they will be marketing these accounts under the institution's name and not their own. Would need to see how open and honest these banks are that Google will have their information/money. Really don't trust them with this level of information. Thankfully cash is still king.

Also worth noting another Google project, project Nightingale, is scooping up over 200 million hospital records in the US without consumer knowledge or consent. Will be interesting for sure. I'm no longer using my Fitbit now that Google is looking to buy them. Will likely dump it if the purchase goes through. Still trying to find a good alternate OS for my Android phone...

Google is into banking OMG. The nightmare of skynet is becoming more real everyday. Where is John connor ?

Don't be too negative guys. We have the choice if we wanna use it or not. We don't have to. Personally I won't touch it unless it has some benefits. Even then, I would just put a bit of cash in there. It would be stupid to completely put all the eggs in there right.

What could be good for us?

Easier transactions (maybe 0 fees) for people all over the world, maybe more people will use Google Pay and make things much easier.

Here is my opinion: Everything which can compete with Paypal is good. The last few years, especially the last two years, with Paypal have been terrible. Limits there, blocks here, freeze etc. Problem: Normal people are using fucking Paypal. If you don't offer Paypal as payment solution your conversation rate will be much lower. Therefore I say yes to Facebook and Google play. I also say yes to Apple Pay.

Easier ways to pay for the consumers = higher conversation rate

don't underestimate the power of "easy/flawless paying". It can have a huge impact of the conversation rate. "Oh let me just grab my phone, press this one button and pay this stuff" vs "Oh lets click here, get my credit card from my wallet somewhere, enter all my private information and also security code :O and then lets hope it works"

This would take advertising to a whole new level. I wonder if those insights would show up on their PPC platform. "Filter: People who spend $XXXX on electronics monthly"

Man as far as i know the number of failed projects from Google is way bigger than the number of their successful ones.

but i do agree with @nakamura, everything which can compete with Gaypal is good.
