Google indexing 2 links for one article

I'm using WP with Yoast, I published article few days ago and google indexed two links:
mywebsite.com/keyword
mywebsite.com/keyword/keyword-2

The second one only has image and title which is my focus keyword. It's totally strange why is it there? It even outranked my article for one place. I think that's probably problem with Yoast, how to fix this?

the second one should be google pulling the image for google image under a particle keyword
 
  1. Make your images noindex
  2. Make that image link to "None" under "Attachment Display Settings"
 
I don't think you should care about this, especially if the image ranked in web searches. This means that you niche is quite easy to rank. So leave it like this and start creating more content so you can rank with it.
 
This could be a case of keyword cannibalization - 2 links fighting to be ranked for the same keyword. In most circumstances, cannibalization isn't a big issue, but if the keywords continue to fluctuate greatly due to the infighting, then I suggest using a canonical link and point that to the article that you want Google listed for that specific keyword, and that should solve the keyword cannibalization issue.
 
what a damn coincidence! I just did something about this issue my self-moments ago!
I have asked a lot of people about this issue and didn't get a practical answer, just speculations
I thought it happened because I used a downloaded Yoast SEO plugin and that's what caused the issue
But now I deleted it and installed the free version from wp-admin panel
and I'll see if that will fix it and re-comment for you here

It's very strange because I never had same situation before even with ultra easy keywords. Google never ranked this format of links "/keyword/keyword-2" I think wp generates it
for yourself. Maybe it's problem with this new version of Yoast because I did not have this problem in version 5.8
 
I just checked and it was problem with this new version of Yoast, they now don't set noindex by default on attachments.

So now by default it's:

So I just set Redirect attachment URLs to Yes.
 
You have to choose YES in Yoast "Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?"

Correct. Now when I open my link "/keyword/keyword-2" it redirects to image which means that only image will be indexed not attachment page generated by Wordpress.

It's true :(
I have been suffering trying to rank this website and it seems to be stuck
My posts although I do 100% correct on page SEO and some offline as well
Most of my posts don't appear in the 100 results in the serps
hell only one page that's sitting on page 3 of Google
I started to think that the domain is penalized but it's not the domain never existed before
I think my problem is because of those damn URLs

/keyword/keyword-2 is a post ? a post with content + image ? or just an image from your post /keyword ?
Normally, google now already indexed /keyword-2 the only thing you can do is to remove the URL from the search engine using your GWT (honestly you don't need to do it). Because you now activated "redirect" from Yoast, google will stop indexing your future media attach (images, video...) but the old ones will stay in the search engine results.
